I think Al's original point was missed.

Filters are no different than your neighbor stealing all your catalogs before you get to your mailbox....you are still getting the same amount of junk mail, you just dont see it.

To his original point, yes, I've noticed a major increase over the past 90+ days. I say that because I support the spam filters for our company, and have access to fairly detailed logs about percentages of what is cataloged as "Spam" vs legit email.

Regardless of what is either filtered out completely, or "labled as spam" and delivered to the user....I'd say that in general, there has definately been a noticeable increase in incoming e-trash.
