| Let's Go Mountaineers! | Glock 17 vs. XD(M)
So my birthday is coming up in about 20 days and I'm looking to pick up a new pistol. I've only ever shot a Glock 31 which shot very nice. I know the Glock has more accessories out there too. Also for sure going with a 9mm so I can have another plinker. As far as my other pistols that I own I have 2 revolvers (.22lr and S&W .32) and a Kimber 1911 in .45 ACP. Opinions of anybody who has shot either of these? I can only hold them at the gun shop as they don't have a range. Looking mostly for- Accuracy Size Weight I'm currently leaning toward the Glock since it has a large magazine capacity. Edit: Been watching "nutnfancy" on Youtube. He talks about both of these but for some reason I just can't bring myself to trust just his opinion.

A friend of mine has an XD in .45ACP. Lots of fun and fairly accurate. Dont take much to shoot up $50 with 13+1 in the chamber. Not much help, but XD are nice feeling firearms.

I've shot my friends XD in .45 There is a reason it's won multiple NRA gun of the year. Hella comfortable grip. Very accurate. Plenty of factory amenities, spare mags, loader, belt holster and carrying case included in a new purchase. The XD(M) expanded on that platform with adjustable grip humps and grip texture. It will be my next purchase.

Thoughts on the XD's trigger? Might as well add this in their too: Main reasons of going with the XDM is the fact that Springfield has been around forever and it's a trusted and proven design. Main reasons for the Glock are pretty much no exterior parts to be corroded and the magazine capacity.

Crisp. Not a very heavy break. I enjoy the hell out of shooting it. The only reason I went with my revolver as a first purchase and not the XD was because I wanted my wife to be able to shoot it if need be with the least amount of complication. I thought with needing to rack it and engage the grip safety it might be too much for her in a time of stress. I like the grip safety and the ultra compacts also have a thumb safety if I'm not mistaken.

Agreed on the trigger. Even being a lefty was no problem for me. Grips go both ways and the shell ejection goes way above and away and Im not getting hit with shells. Looking up on the web. Unless you get the sub compact XD it only holds one less than the Glock...

I prefer Glock<G19,G21SF> myself, I used it while in the military. Also I use them as my every day carry. And with work I prefer the same. I can do an armours break down with 1 tool on a Glock. I've only had 1 malfunction<stove pipe> and that was due to crappy Russian/ Czech ammo. Carry it in brine, swamp, desert, glovebox. It's a Timex. As for upgrades, really don't need any. But it's up to a persons taste. On both of mine I have a 3.5 connecter with full polish on all the s.s. Took a dremel with a polishing drum and compound done a quick ramp job. I have a source that has some guild rods from Israel that the Shayetet came up with. Gonna try them out before I yap about them. to see if the Bee's knees. Overall. It's a K.I.S.S design ment to do one thing and thats it,KILL. Not win a beauty pagent. Funny thing is Glock was the first to use a material other then metal for it's frame. Now everyone and his brother is copying them doing the same. Also, the same about rails on the frames. Before civies got their eyeballs on it. They've been in the field for some time. Don't get me wrong a XD is a fine weapon. But, it's too "James Bond" doodad's that Mr. Murphy can come along and pay a vist to. Go to a range, rent both and see what you like.My comments mean spit if your not comfie with your sidearm.

Glock and XD both serve the same niche. Dependable, "service" accuracy (don't buy the super accuracy reports out of a service pistol), and designed for day to day carry. That being said I lean towards the Glocks - mostly because I keep a 10MM around for hiking / woods carry and aside from a bigger grip its the same as carrying my 9MM day to day as far as useage. Something that XD does not offer IIRC

I just picked up a G17 for the wife. It has the tactical 3.5 lb trigger kit on it and night sights. It is a very good shooter pretty accurate and has a good feel to it the trigger pull is very crisp. To OP I'll trade ya for the Kimber...lol |
