I finally completed this last month. Took forever, I was waiting on parts. The lower is a Smith and Wesson M&P 15 with DPMS internals and a Rock River six position stock. The upper is a GGG Dominator-1 complete upper. It has a 16”, 1-7, floated barrel, and collapsible front and rear sights. Bolt and carrier are Rock River with a PRI gas blocker charging handle. I installed a Grip Pod and a UTG green laser. Shoots really nice, I just need to zero the sights for about 150 yds. I would still like to install and EOTech holographic sight. |

Looks good. I never owned a gun, but I think any kind of AR would be the last I want to get. I like the model and all, but everything I've read about it makes me think you pretty much have to register every single part of the damn thing and if you get even 1 part that lets you go full auto you're breaking the law. It just sounds like a giant hassle to me. I don't know, maybe I'll move to Alaska? Nice setup again. |

i'm really digging that setup though. my dad's is Stag Arms upper, DPMS lower, and i think DPMS trigger setup too. he has a free-floating shroud/handguard, so no rails. and of course flip up front and rear sights. along with a red dot. and CBS stock by CAA.

You need to get either a M1 or Mauser 98 to be a real gun owner

Yup, the lower's the only part that needs registered. As far as the ATf is concerned, it's the actual firearm. It's not that easy to make an AR full-auto unless it was originally built that way. Probably not hard if you have a mill, but you do have to find dimensions and such. Anyway, as to the actual gun, that's just about what I'd get if I wasn't a gas-piston guy. I do so love aperture sights. Going to fit a set onto my AK.

Nice gun! I built one up last summer on a Nodak Spud lower with a Colt upper and a bunch of Magpul stuff. Have you checked out the Aimpoint Micro T1 sights? I just got mine sighted in and I love it. I've never tried an EOtech. Where do you other guys live that you have to register non NFA firearms?

In all seriousness though, I can't afford the M1 I want right now. I built this one as plinking/ 3 gun comp rifle. I got tired of running cheap ammo though my hi-power comp. rifle, the Armalite. | |

The reason being that every firearm needs a location for the important information, such as the serial number. And being that the AR15/M16 design has the largest flat spot on the lower receiver that is where they are located. Has nothing to do with function or gun control really, just simplicity of location is what it came down to. I mean you can buy everything except the lower receiver and get it through standard mail! So you could, if inclined to do so, technically build a gun that can be rigged to fire and not have gone through the registration process. As for the M1 comment and "real" owners. Well... REAL gun owners know that there are M1 Garands, and M1 Carbines, and Thompson M1. You might want to actually elaborate when talking about something that shares its name around multiple models.
