Ion feed neck on a ProMaster

Can anyone say for certain that an Ion feed neck should not be used on a ProMaster? I have an Ion feedneck that I tried screwing onto my ProMaster, and it seems to be the same threads. However, I also know that there are feednecks made specifically for ICD markers (although not specifically the ProMaster).

I've heard that putting an Ion feedneck on a ProMaster can result in the feedneck hole's threads being stripped. Does anyone have any first-hand experience with this problem?

thanks, MCB.

i am not sure if ions have the same threads as the shocker feednecks but I have a shocker feedneck on my pm and it works fine. I've have heard thought, that if you try to use something other than promaster threads you could strip the threads on the body. Hope this helps.

If it's a shocker NXT, I think that is the same as an Ion.

There is a definite difference between ICD threaded necks and ION/Imp/shocker necks. ICD necks are 13/16-32. While SP necks are supposedly the same, the major diameter is closer to 12.5/16. On a 32 thread pitch that leaves very little thread actually engaging.

So, the problem would be that the feedneck might pull up straight out of the body and strip the feed neck hole's threads in the process?

Yeah. If you get lucky you only trash the threads on the feedneck. AKA and CCM use softer aluminum than the body just for that reason. If you don't get lucky, then JBWeld is about your only option.

That sounds bad.

Anyone know of any polished red ICD-specific feed necks out there? The only ICD-specific feednecks I can find are made by AKA.

I guess there is CCM, too.

Like you said only CCM and AKA make Bushmaster threaded feednecks, the promaster section of PBN is full of: Why did my feedneck fall off? Why won't it thread in? etc. The answer is always the same, you didn't read the stickies and stripped your body. You've also got to watch out for the people selling feednecks on Ebay- they have no problem calling the SP threads and BM threads the same thing.
Everything Ebay has that for the marker:
bushmaster feedneck items on eBay.com
Just don't go for those warrior feednecks or the no brand ones up top.
Penguin
Edit: I don't know if CCM makes polished red feednecks. Those are all factory direct so there might just not be a demand for them.

I got the AKA feedneck, and noticed that the warrior ion low-rise feed neck could almost be wiggled into the ProMaster's body without screwing it in (of course, I didn't do this with a lot of force so as to avoid wrecking the threads). With a full loader, I can understand how the feedneck would rip right out.

So, it's AKA feedneck for my ProMaster.
