I have a dream!

NAY! A vision! To lighten the Desert Fox! Yes, I know the Fox Rox, but it's really heavy and forget about finding barrels. As I see it these are the only two weak points in the design. Sure you could add the stock reg, the main spring, and maybe the poor gas efficiency as "weak points" but you would be wrong! The stock reg is a simple fix, gut it and add on a Palmer... you were going to do something like that anyway. the main spring will last quite a while if you take it outta da gun when not using it. And in an era of "All Day Air" gas efficiency is mostly an afterthought.

Now then...
Were I king for the day I would make the Fox's body of Carbon Fiber laminate (maybe the trigger frame as well), and line it with 6061-T6 aluminum where the bolt rides fore and aft. I would also delete the space for the old regulator, and maybe add a shut-off valve like the original Foxes had. And heck, since I have my minions building such a cool body, I'll have it threaded for Cocker or Spyder barrels, since they are standards. I MAY also put a vertical feed on the body, but I do like the look and function of a powerfeed.

ICD threading is still King to me. So much quicker. And barrels are had fairly cheap if you look around. (One post down Dye 1 piece for 10$new, freak backs on ebay for 10-15$)

OK, so forget my mad rantings about the barrel threads. I would still love to build one outta carbon fiber.

The issue with the barrels threads is that very few, if any, manufacturers continue to make old ICD threaded barrels. Cocker threads are common - used by WGP, NEW ICD, and I think Newer Mags. Spyder threads are everywhere. From the standpoint of barrel availability, Cocker or Spyder threads are the way to go.

I'll never re-thread my Fox, but were I to build something new, this is how I would do it.

Y'know... ICD is out of the gun buis. Maybe we should just buy the production rights and drawings for the Fox and go to town...

Granted it's a small town, but it's a town nonetheless.

Hate to see them go. No more Cockers, no more ICD. Hope you guys like Spyders.
