Ender's Game (Movie)

Im half excited, half nervous. I really loved the book and dont want it ruined for me.
Its pretty obvious that the children are MUCH older than described in the book. Does this bother anyone else?

I find it strange Orson Scott Card allowed this to happen. I remember for the longest time, he was very against a movie being made. I wonder what made him change his mind.

Thoughts?

An interview with Card states that the movie will have it's differences. He wanted fans to hold it separate from the book, and hoped fans would bear that in mind. He didn't want the movie to be too much like the book. I'm excited enough. I won't hold it on the same plane as the novel.

It'd be a little unfair to expect any movie to match a SciFi book so important it's required reading at West Point and Annapolis....

Ben Kingsley looks like he carries off Mazer Rackham, it should be a good movie even if it can't be the book...

There are good differences between books and the movies/shows they spawn (Dexter the TV show is great, but very different from Darkly Dreaming Dexter, the book that spawned it), and then there are bad differences (Starship Troopers - love the book, the movie and its sequels can just burn). I'm hoping Ender's Game is a good movie and not terribly worried if it's totally faithful to the book.

Starship Troopers - I look at the movies as a seperate entity same basic premise but made for a movie audience not a reading audience

the same as what Card wants for Ender

I'm assuming a big part of the age thing is that the actors appear to be at that age where they can prove to be reliable actors, while still clearly 'very young'.

Personally I have no issues with logical changes like that for a live action film that are based on general logistics. Changing ages and some time lines can be done very effectively while keeping the core of the story itself alive.

I decided a while back that an Ender's Game movie would have to be animated to be similar to the book. That said, the trailer makes it look like they are doing a pretty impressive job with the CGI.

Well... the coolest part about the book (If im remembering it correctly) Is that you did'nt quite realize that the final training simulation was actually a real life battle until nearly the end. So depending on how the the plot is set up in the movie, It could just be a movie about some smart kid who wins a battle against some aliens.

Also why am i seeing current gen fighter aircraft in this trailer? Its supposed to be year 21XX is'nt it?

Because the first attack on humans was actually relatively close to present day if I recall correctly... That's my memory/guess at least

IIRC, the first invasion was far enough back in time that it could be feasible to have current aircraft.

Also, the main plot is not the aliens, it's the time in battle school.

edit-m_t, great minds read alike.
