Patrick Rothfuss

So the bearded wonder is coming to Kansas City this weekend for ConQuest, but tonight he's doing a book reading and signing in Overland Park (one of the many KC suburbs on the Kansas side of the line). *hmmm* I'm using up leave before "use or lose" at the end of the year, and I'm off today (and the next 4 days)... guess who's going to KC tonight for a Patrick Rothfuss signing?! Damn straight, the Rabbit is hitting the road in 4 hours or so and getting his geek on.

Seriously though, I'm going to try hard and not fanboy drool all over him and *squeee!* like a school girl. Going to get my hardbacks signed, shake his hand, thank him for entertaining us, and hang out with my fellow cool people at the store until they kick us out.

Recent, serious interview of Mr Rothfuss:

And a not so serious bit, entitled "Guinea Pigs are fish" (really, watch this one, it's HILARIOUS):

Lucky! The Kingkiller Chronicles are one of my favorite set of books ever. I can't wait for the next one to come out.

He seems like a really cool guy. He's one of the few authors whose blogs I read. I want to do a Kingkiller reread once the 3rd book's release date is announced.

It was an entertaining evening, pretty intimate as there was only about 40 to 50 folks there. I got a video of him talking about how he can conduct the Q&A which I hope to get up on YT sometime this weekend. I'll post it up here when I get it up there.

Let's see, highlights of the evening - whenever Pat was asked about something that might reveal parts of book 3, his answer was "that's a great question... next question." Got a copy of the rare kids' book The Adventures of the Princess and Mr Whiffle: The Thing Beneath the Bed, and got it signed along with my copies of his first 2 books. I did not get a copy of the warning sticker though ("THIS S*** IS NOT FOR KIDS - SERIOUSLY."), but it was all good.

I had not heard of the guy before you post. I listened to the interview yesterday, and I am downloading the audible book this morning.
I like fantasy and Sci Fi enough to thoroughly enjoy a 5 star book, but I can barely make it through a 4 star. Anything less than four is a complete flop with me.
Hoping this one is five stars!

I'd put him in the same category as George R.R. Martin and Robert Jordan. Big, meaty book, very involved world. Lots of layered foreshadowing.

Except he doesn't kill every character you start to like, like RR Martin does.

"We can do this one of two ways - the nice way where I don't curse, but I have to be real careful about what I say and you can videotape it, or we all put away our video devices, and have a nice, intimate talk."

Yep, we chose the second option. He still didn't curse that I can remember, and wasn't really controversial, but we did all vote to stop the videotaping.
