| Rocking the casbah | Hater marmalade vs Militia lube
So, I was playing a tourney and I had to pre-fire a couple of shots to get everything up to speed because of the delay in between rounds, and the fact it was about 15* F out. I lubed my clone very lightly w/ militia lube. Even had ABS set to 4ms. Someone else who was running an angel and a dm(something) said he only used hater marmalade in the cold weather and he doesn't get those problems. Would it hurt to use marmalade on the clone vx? |

Yes! Stick with either the Militia Lube or Dow 33. The Marmalade will cause more problems in the Clone because of the tighter tolerances in the Clone.

I've used my clone in 20* weather with militia lube and it did fine, just be sure you don't over lube it. You might also bump the dwell up 2 or 3 ms. Batteries get pretty weak in the cold too, so keep that in mind. If you take it in and out of a warming area, you could also be getting condensation that freezes and forms frost on internal parts, which can cause some problems. Mine works best if it stays at a constant temperature.

I was kind of curious about this as well, my shop had suggested monkeypoo but everywhere I look militialube seems to be the best available for Clones. Hows do monkeypoo compare? On a side note whats a good dwell for warmer climates (I live in SoCal) and am a total noob when it comes to MacDev markers but so far I love them!!

Tek2974 - If your Clone is broken in, then you should be fine. I think the stock setting is 12ms IIRC. If you haven't broken in your marker, reset the board to the stock settings. p8ntninja - There are several other types of lube that work ok in other markers, but each marker is manufactured with different tolerances and thus you could notice a difference with them vs. what the manufacturer suggests. (Different lubes will swell o-rings at different rates, etc. Thus as your marker gets broken in, there is more room for these to swell in depending on how much you use your marker.) This does not seem to be the case with every MacDev marker I have owned. The Militia Lube just works best.

I tried Monkeypoo last year in my drone and found that it is just to thick for the Clone, so I switched back to Militia Lube. For most conditions, 8 to 10 ms dwell on the Clone is fine. Every gun will have a different level of break in, parts tolorances, etc, so just experiment a little . It won't hurt to change it 2 or 3 ms and see what happens. I use 12 in cold weather down into the 20s, but 14 is used by some players. The only down side to a longer dwell is some decreased efficiency and it may be slightly louder and less smooth, but that is a good trade for proper function.
