We don't generally do OT's in any sections here. We have so many sections where off topic is on topic that there really isn't a need lol.

The post you're referring to doesn't expressly forbid an OT thread, and neither do the forum rules. Violating norms is different from violating rules, and there's really no harm in having an OT here. Further, the original thread is clearly sensitive to any kind of rule that might exist and is really just exploring the option. Long live the MDOT.
