Mags on your hip or chest?

What is your preference?

Currently I have a chest rig and four fastmags which works...

However I have recently been trying to reduce my load out to the most minimal set up possible... (yeah, magfed doesn't really lend its self to this mentality but whatever...its fun!)

Currently on every single one of my other guns I use a stick feed and 10rnd tubes mounted on my hip/back with a Joyride harness. So I am comfortable with the low profile SC harness on my back.

Is there anything similar to that...but for Mags? (Milsig specifically)

I am thinking of something like the Multipurpose Molle Panel made by British Tactical, mounted low on a belt so that I can mount the fast mags lower on my hips but not down on my thighs...

I have tried a battle belt...but found they are often too padded and become quite bulky in addition to being mounted too high to facilitate easy (for me) access to mags.

I am not keen on drop leg platforms that have straps going around my legs...I just don't find them comfortable.

Any other ideas?

Pictures for reference would be very useful. Thanks!

I opted for chest mounting to better facilitate the return of mags to their pouches. Sometimes, I'll swap out a mag befir it is spent, so that I can be sure I have plenty of ammo for something idiotic. I played with mounting them on my back, but I just couldn't quickly and reliably do it.

You have to remember that mag-fed play is modeled after real gear/tactics, so what you have is about as low-profile as it gets. That said, I have one of these:

It keeps everything in the center of my chest, leaving a full range of motion for my arms. It also integrates seamlessly into larger systems, like I have here:

I'm looking at eventually getting the Pig system from SKD Tactical, which is a fully scale-able system that can be very quickly configured for the current mission. It starts with this:

Also, assuming you wear a regular belt when you play (I wear a rigger's belt), you can just attach your fazmags to that. That may be the best way to go for walk-on games, but it doesn't give you a lot of options for dealing with changing mission requirements.

Blue Force Gear makes a line called Ten-Speed:

And a bandoleer using the same concept:

They also have MOLLE mag pouches that use the same system. I have their Ultralight Dump Pouch and it works very well.

I like to keep my mags on my hip, that way they don't get in my way or get all dirty when i'm crawling

Fastmags are easy to pull and replace mags. Plus I have a dump pouch for empties.

Thanks for all that.

While magfed currently emulates real steel...it doesn't have to. So I am looking for other options.

The chest rig is currently working...but it is really a lot larger than needed.

I have played with the castings on my regular belt but felt the mags were too high up and in the way? I want something just a bit lower

Those bfg items look cool...but won't work with milsig mags I will have to remember them for possible future use.

I'm not sure about the bandoleer, but everything else comes in a 7.62mm mag size as well, which should be perfect for Milsig mags.

Wouldn't the elastic push down the collar and trip the detent system?

On another note. Has anyone run fast mags upside down? Are they secure enough to hold milsig mags while running?

That's a good question, I'm not sure.
