Pretty much correct.

If you are a dealer, you can have a dealer forum, but you can't just go around soliciting people that you have X,Y, or Z for sale when you are a dealer.

If you had a product out of your own personal stash and you're just trying to be helpful, that's one thing, and that's ok. But when it steps over that line into being a dealer, selling because you buy and sell, then that's not ok.

Reason being is because we have multiple dealers here, and if every one of them started blatantly soliciting every member that mentioned they needed something, this would quickly become a non-fun place to be.

I've had multiple complaints about this activity and it's why we're enforcing these rules. I don't want users complaining because of solicitations by dealers outside the dealer thread, and since they have been, I have to insist folks stop these actions.

Ok thank you for clarifying. I didn't solicit multiple people. I saw his bolt was broken and I have those. I can't PM him saying, saw your bolt was broken, if you need one I have them here *link*?

What about someone posting a WTB ad? I can't post "PM sent" or PM that person when they are looking for a product that I carry?

If you have something and it's in your personal stash, I don't care what you do, if you have one because you sell that item as a "dealer" then I have a problem. As a dealer, and someone trying to make money off the sport, you're going to be held to a higher standard than your average player. But then again, dealers have their own special section to promote their websites and products.

Not that my opinion matters (and this issue really hasn't affected me) but I wouldn't mind getting a reply in my WTB thread from a dealer if they have what I want.

The dealers forum is cool but it changes so regularly that it's hard to keep up with who has what. I also feel like some of the dealers have some random inventory so if I am looking for something a little obscure, I would welcome the post or PM.

The exception would be if I was clearly looking for something used or inexpensive that is readily available at retail. If I post a WTB for a 4500psi tank or a JT Flex lens, I know what retail prices are and I am probably looking for a cheaper option.

I can definitely see the justification for unwanted solicitation in the tech threads as Carter pointed out above.

So, I didn't really type anything useful in the last 5 minutes but I thought this was an interesting thread and I just wanted to participate

Thank you spoon, that's kind of my point. I understand users don't want to be bombarded with PMs from everyone each time they post something, but I find it unfair to the dealers (not just myself) that we can't PM someone who is looking to buy something. Especially if they write in, "send me a PM" like most do. Someone posting a WTB ad for hoppers, or a pressure gauge should expect a few PMs from people.

The dealers section is good, but how many users honestly look there when they want something? Most simply put up a WTB ad and wait for the PMs instead of going to look for it. I feel the dealers hands are being tied behind their backs if X product is in the dealers section and the WTB ad is right there, yet dealers can't PM.

What if say I post a WTB ads with the line: Dealer please PM me if you have something that I am looking for but not posted in your section. Will that let the dealer PM me?

Some dealers here sure have random stuff, and searching through the dealer section sometime get to be a pain unless i am buying something that I know titus carry, i.e. 10 rounds tubes or something.

This is pretty much how I feel as well. If I post in the WTB for a Trracer threaded barrel and a dealer has said item, I WANT them to pm me. I get teh tech forums, but the WTB should be fair game, imo.

WTB is already excluded:

Dealers Forum Rules Update

As I posted earlier in this thread waaay back on page 1 about that... WTB is fine. It's been covered.
We're talking about in tech and general sections, or other people's for sale threads, as what happened today.

Oh yeah, I saw where you said this:

I'll make an exclusion for the WTB for the time being
It was the 'for the time being' part that I wanted to voice my opinion on. I hope you keep it that way permanently. Thanks!
