APX Fyre Review

Alright, I've been trying to find a decent paint to play pump with when Ultra Evil isn't available. I've been shooting UE for 5 years, playing weekly, in Los Angeles, but moved to San Diego and have less stores to choose from. I can, only recently, find WPN in San Diego, CA so, I ordered 3 cases of APX Fyre about 3 weeks ago. For the locals, I know some of the stores get Ultra Evil in, but it is sporadic, and I don't have time to drive up to Oceanside to pick it up. I just finished playing my second weekend with the Fyre. Today, I did a bunch of 1 vs 1 with a friend shooting Ultra Evil. I figure 2 people with essentially the same experience, gun setup, and most importantly, same weather conditions, could give a decent comparison evalution of this paint.

Shipping. Free is great. 3 cases @ 150+tax, since in CA. Reasonable. Came via FedEx, as discussed, and on time. No issues with shipping. No ball breaks in the bags. Each thick walled cardboard case had 4-500 round bags. 10/10

Paint-Very round, ala, Marballizer. Smooth seam. Bored to a 0.687. It was the brown and white striped shell with a fill equivalent to standard evil, orange ball. Brown shell harder to see coming in than a metallic orange. 10/10

Accuracy-Shot a 1/2 case of it today, and it shoots very straight. No issues with short or long distance. On par with standard evil or PRS premium. I think, IMO, that Ultra Evil still has a slight edge. 9/10

Breakage-I had some problems with this today. After doing 1 vs 1 on an airball setup, my friend showed my the welts that I had bounced him with, including nice ones on the sternum, ribs, and bare legs (he was in shorts). I had one hit his shoe and bounce back at me. They were bouncing off of the bunkers. The ultra evil was breaking on the bunkers. You could see the difference in the bunkers, mine were covered with bright orange paint, his were reasonably clean. No problems with breaks on guns/goggles or bony surfaces. 6/10

Customer service-Can't be beat. Jon at apxgear.com does is job, and does it well. Kudos to him. 10/10. I emailed him about the bounce factor, and he actually emailed me back the next day, and said that they have an extra brittle shell, for $5 case more. His service alone, is one reason to keep supporting this company. 10/10

After shooting a full case in 2 outings playing pump only this is my conclusion:

I still love Ultra Evil for pump. When you only have 1 shot and can't have a bounce, UE, is the paint for a me. It is the gold standard that everyone else compares to. With that said, I can't get it consistently Ultra evil any more and I'm OK with shooting the APX Fyre when i am playing pump. It shoots straight, reasonably priced, and hopefully the brittle version, will shatter on everything it hits. Can't wait to try that out. It was hot today, high 80s to low 90s by the time we left. Maybe this paint's shell is more temperature sensitive then ultra evil.

I think this paint shoots, breaks and marks like straight evil, a good RPS premium or other upper middle range ball. If I were running a semi, I really wouldn't have any complaints about the bounces. Much less than Elixer, mid grade XO industries/Draxxus.

Other people ran a couple of pods through their pump guns and they had no complaints about accuracy.

yeah i did a review on this a while back and have to agree it is good paint for the price. the stuff i had was break on concrete when dropped from the waist. i bought mine a year ago when the company was just getting started so they may have changed the mix a little since then. overall really good paint for the price.

Here is a bounce test of a just opened bag. 7 or 8 drops from mid-chest before cracking. never mind my great coordination on catching it on the bounce.
