Animal Customs Jersey Review

Animal Paintball | Welcome
AnimalCustoms.com - Clothing - Laredo, TX | Facebook

My team, Featuring Death, recently contracted Animal Customs (aka Animal Paintball) to make team jerseys for us. Several reasons we went with Animal:
  • easy to understand website, including pricing and artwork requirements
  • clearly explained options (jersey style, padding, sleeves, fabric weight etc)
  • ability to accept Adobe Illustrator artwork
  • long track record of producing jerseys for paintball
  • standard fabric is 4.5oz, similar to speedball jerseys from Dye and others

All communication with Animal (via email, phone) was courteous and prompt.

We experienced a printing error with the first jerseys and, after some negotiation, Animal agreed to reprint the jerseys at their expense.

The artwork we provided, Adobe Illustrator artwork based on the Crye Precision MultiCam pattern, is extremely complex with many subtle colour variations and gradients and difficult to reproduce.

We suspect it was just a bit too much for the dye sublimation printer to handle, leading to the issue with the first run.

We spent some more time tweaking the design and Animal sent us several test swatches. We selected version “C1” (client tweak 1) though it was a very close race between that and “C3”.

Here's a mockup of Mar's jersey, using the C1 pattern, from Animal:

  • Animal rushed the replacement jerseys to us and we had them back weeks before they were expected
  • Colours are a very close match to Crye Precision MultiCam
  • Print quality is excellent; the graphics are sharp and well saturated
  • Assembly quality is excellent
  • Material is perfect. It's not too heavy, not too light; if you're used to a typical, lightweight Dye speedball jersey that wicks well, the 4.5oz "standard" fabric is what you want. Heavier fabric only makes sense (to me) for cold weather.

Comparison of colour option C1 and C3 test prints, against actual Crye Precision MultiCam, first against an APX cotton jersey then 300D Cordura DBD pants.

Animal themselves liked the colours enough that they offered to purchase the Illustrator Artwork from us and we were happy to oblige them.

If you want a jersey with an extremely close match to actual Crye Precision MultiCam, contact Animal and let them know.
