could the fact that the mask does NOT seem to be fogging have anything to do with the foam around your face? from the picks, it doesn't seem to be that open cell crap that is in all masks. that type of foam seems to act like a sponge and keeps the sweat right where it doesn't need to be...by the lens! the foam showed in your pics looks like it has some sort of coating over the foam...is that the case? thanks again for the review...awesome!

I think you are correct about the foam. The mask does come with two different foams. You have the Tactical Training Goggle which I have and you have the regular goggle with the open cell foam. Rap 4 will be selling the replacement foam that I have.

You are correct, this foam does not absorb.

Is the mask you have with the good foam available for purchase?

Yes it is. When you call RAP4 tell the you want the hard foam not the open cell. I want to say it's called the "Trainer Mask".

The one I bought looked brand new, the only thing that was wrong with it was that one of the buttons that hold the chin strap in place had snapped off. I removed the chin strap anyways so it wasn't a big deal.

The first thing I did was remove the lens, and the only thing I could compare it to was taking the lens out of a JT frame. The mask being all one piece was different for me to say the least, but it did make the mask more rigid, even though it is made of some rubber/plastic hybrid.

One thing I did like about this mask, no visor (at least on mine)
Makes field of view awesome while crawling (which I do a lot of). They're also nice and roomy inside the lens, which was great for my glasses. The dual pane lenses in my Grill makes the mask sort of tight while using my glasses, and I was glad to see that the dual panes in the RAP4 mask didn't press them into my face, which would cause fogging issues after a few games, even with FogDoc applied.

Overall I'm happy with this mask, I'm gonna run a few games with it and see if it really grows on me

For those of you who have been following this review, I have posted more results of my findings. Still more testing will follow as the warmer months arrive

I just checked the mask I have, and my foam is different than yours. I still haven't had any problems with the mask itself fogging, just my glasses after 4 or 5 nonstop rounds in less than 30 degree weather, even with FogDoc.

I bought this mask about a month ago, I been wanting to try one out for awhile.. when they made the Tan and Olive I figured I would order one.. I asked Hustle Paintball about ordering something for me from RAP4 as I was placing an order and they gladly obliged. This allowed for me to receive free shipping something that RAP4 does not offer... I would recommend anyone to order from Hustle Paintball ..
I received the one with the open cell foam.. I used this for about a month and have not had any issues with it fogging... until this Past Saturday the 4th of Feb.. playing a scenario big game in South West Virginia.. temp was about mid 40s.. overcast and then sprinkling to a drizzle. the temp dropped to the low 40s mid 30s with massive running around in wooded terrain and the rain the mask fogged.. and it fogged between the dual layers.. but there was not an unfogged mask in the 100 or so players there.. from I4's to V force to Empires and Jt's.. I will be ordering the training foam to replace mine with and a couple more lenses..
Overall while not the most attractive mask but I like it and it works really well.. mine fogged under extreme conditions but I have never owned a mask that did not fog here in the mtns .
Thanks Rain for a good review..

You are quite welcome for the review. I've yet to have real extreme conditions, but spring is just around the corner and Washington is prone to Rain, humidity and cold. So my review is never ending till I can actually fog in a game, then I will be happy. I'm positive it's the foam that works the wonders. Make sure you get the ear foam as well and replace the open cell stuff.
