Deathwish_DW Spitfire 2.0 Ion Board!

Bought one of DW's Spitfire boards late last year, here's the sale link:
Limited Run of 50 Lucky/Hyperdrive Spitfire 2.0 Ion Boards w/ Mac 33 Solenoids

In the mail, i received the board, Mac 33 solenoid, Lucky banjo, and a parade of hoses. Also included a membrane pad adaptor, optional (and extra $).

First, some install pics!

Perfect fit in the frame:

And the complete gun:

Now, the review!
As you may notice, board has a brighter-than-the-sun power led, although the clear epiphany button helps.

Ok, this sort of a lame review for now, because i haven't put any paint through the ol' girl yet. But the board, noid & lucky banjo fit in a stock frame just fine, board powers on and cycles just fine, no leaks or issues as of yet. May put some zballs through and make a vid. We'll see how the wife feels about that.

EDIT 2/1/12 - made a video! Shooting gxg zballs, unknown velocity (lower than 280, all i know), unknown pressure since i don't use guages on ions anymore, rof capped at 12 semi, dwell at 15 clicks, 360 qev, orange unicorn bolt w/ extreme upgrade (the spring & new tail), 9v revvy. Worked pretty well but was out-shooting the revvy, which is no surprise.

EDIT 3/8/12 - another video, bumped the rof to 15 and slapped on a Rotor. Rest is the same.

I'm hoping you might be able to provide some performance info- specifically, consistency (maybe a 20shot string or a Virtue Clock calculation?) and rate of fire (depending on the hopper you have available to test with).

Rumor had it a couple years ago was that these were supposed to be ROF beasts.

I can tell you that I had the board say it was shooting 34/sec. I assume it uses the cycles a sec to calculate it. If that is the case, I had No chops etc. I may look into getting a clock.

I just made a vid but with a 9v revvy, just to demonstrate that it works. I'll make another one tomorrow w/ a rotor to show rof, if the rotor responds well to the zballs.

Consistency consists of a lot of variables, not sure that test really showcases the board & noid specifically.

I agree not the board and noid specifically but, this board/solenoid is quite a different animal. Even the airpaths are different. Air goes all the way back to the rear banjo before being routed back to the solenoid.

For me, the bottom line is that there is next to zero quality data (BPS, or consistency) for this setup. A decent number of people bought them when they first came out but, I've still not seen any bench testing. For me, quality data would be:

Good paint (i.e. mid-grade, fresh, well-handled)
Underbore barrel
Tuned
Chrono'ed
A 15round string fired at 1-sec intervals with recorded Chrono readings

For ROF, I consider the TechPB / Punkworks Speedking Contest, the gold standard for ROF testing/Demo. Basically, it's a video (with audio), showing a chrono, and then 1+ full seconds of full auto shooting (gun and paint in frame). The video is then goldwaved for BPS. For identification/entry purposes, folks have to include a sign with the TechPB username in the video.

I submitted my Ion into the contest (Link to Video). But, I didn't get anywhere close to the current electro category leader (26BPS).

My specs at the time of test:
  • AKA 2-Liter+ Dual Reg
  • SP 360 QEV
  • Virtue OLED Board
  • Deadlywind Hollowpoint Bolt W/ Fattened Stalk Mod (to reduce fire chamber volume)
  • NDZ Spring Ball Detents
  • Deadlywind DTI3 Body (Semi-BOB Tailed)
  • Dye Rotor W/ 12V Mod
  • Freak Barrel and .689 insert

It's funny that the current mechanical leader is at 29.

All these demands!

The best test i can do is shooting fresh paint over a big red w/ a .687 bore (smallest bore i've got with these threads, i'll try to get some larger bore paint). Maybe swap the stock reg with a sidewinder, if i still have it. It'll have to wait, though - i can't afford paint right now.

Sorry, no. I wasn't intending to levy demands. I was just noting that I've never seen any firm data of Ions with these guts. If you happened to be the first one to do it- Kudos! Otherwise, don't worry about it
