US Army Surplus 'Tactical' LBV

I've been in the market for a new vest/harness for awhile now, and stumbled across a 'tactical' LBV on Ebay; it was $20 shipped, so i figured 'Why Not?'

It was a good purchase after all.

This particular model is a mid-to-late 90's Load Bearing Vest in Woodland Camo (which matches up nicely with north american forests.)

More than that, it's a solid, mostly (if not all) synthetic Cordura type fabric, there are 4 pockets on the front that will fit 50 round pods very nicely, the two 'grenade' pouches will fit an AO paintbomb reasonably well, or other equipment such as barrel plugs or pull through squeegies.

Also, this particular type of vest is very adjustable, making it easy to get a snug fit.

The other thing, more important to people who can sew reasonably well, is that the vest has a couple options to mount a pod pack to the back using a pair of webbing points and/or a pair of d-rings. I have estimated that i could carry 3-4 pods, depending on the setup , in the same general configuration as a standard paint ball pack. (that's 200 rounds in the front pockets, and about 600 rounds in a pack.) Thanks to the location of the webbing loops, it could also be easy to mount a larger CO2 or HPA tank up near the shoulders in a more natural position. (for those of us with air-hungry guns.)

Also, one of the front pockets will conveniently hold between 6 and 8 ten round tubes, and the grenade pouches will hold 6 12ies.

All in all, i give this piece of equipment a 4 out of 5. it is good, but needs some upgrades from someone who can sew to make it a practical paintball vest.

pictures to come after i've done some upgrades (and completed leatherworking projects)

Got the pictures loaded up? I'm curious to see what you've done to the vest.

I have the same LBV you are talking about and it's great. I added a bottle pouch to mine on the back that I hook my remote up to and it works really great. All together it's a compact setup that's works just like I need it to.
