The insulation definately did something to it. It seemed like it was a little quieter, but also a little lower. Maybe?

Can you not hit things for a few shots? I know it's odd to want to do that, but it seemed like there was two stages of sounds coming from the gun, ant THEN the whack of the ball, but I couldn't quite tell.

Is your Whoosh tip packed with anything to help absorb any sound?

It's packed and ported on the outside as well to allow the gases to escape at a slower rate than they would through regular porting.

One thing you need to be careful of is perspective: since the pipe insulation blocks the porting, it might sound quieter to the guy shooting the gun, but be louder downrange since it's keeping those gases headed out the barrel instead of allowing them to escape through the porting, since it's closed-cell foam. A better sound test would probably be to put the camera 10 feet in front and slightly to the side of the gun as it fires.

The other thing is video camera sound is hit or miss, many have compensation features that make them increase and automatically balance certain sound levels.

I know for a fact the pipe insulation works better than the whoosh tip. It's just not as practical for paintball. I've stood down range and you could tell the difference. I just didn't feel there was enough of a difference while firing normal paintball. Maybe in a first strike platform.

Not only that, but the headphones/speakers on the receiving end will have a huge effect on how it sounds. It's almost futile to make sound judgements from a youtube video.

I have no idea. I **** myself when I saw the guy after I shot out that first player. I thought that guy was eliminated by a teammate so I didn't bother looking when I first stopped after I ran. I literally was right next to that guy.
