Will also do the best chrono comparison I can do. Maybe a before and after FPS along with the stock FPS. The before and after will not be on the same day, but it will be with the same paint an an untouched HPR.

Is there a similar picture to what you posted that shows the bolt closed? I'm just wondering where everything lines up.

The bird cage might help a bit with air flow.

Some more conjecture for discussion:
For the front air ports, I believe a design like the L6 bolt which has slots instead of holes is the way to go. A part of fluid flow is boundary effects (interaction with the walls). The curved slots of the L6 bolt have a lower wall surface to cross-sectional area ratio.

Basically it can be thought of like this: if you double the diameter of a circle, you double the perimeter but quadruple the area. A pipe with a 1" diameter has the same cross-sectional area of four 1/2" pipes and the 1" pipe will offer less resistance to fluid flowing through.

The L6 bolt has 3 curved slots, like an automag or Tiberius bolt. This keeps the bolt equally strong in all directions while minimizing the wall to cross-section ratio.

So punisherpb.com was out of stock on the ndz skeleton bolt but has trinity bolt for $18 and it weighs in at 11.4 grams. I can't wait to test it out.

Good to know. We'll see what I can manage to do with the tools I have. Any ill effects if I drill out the rear of the tail a little as well?

It's one thing to scavenge what old-stock we can but I think we need to be actively pushing a manufacturer to release a high-flow bolt.

Another item to consider that just came to mind. The shape of the transfer grooves will also play a role. The inner bolt stop o-ring and the bolt basically looks like a caged globe valve (wiki it). Globe valves are used for flow control. The shape of the cage (in this case the transfer grooves will affect the flow as the bolt travels through its stroke.

This is the best image I could quickly find to explain:

Now where's the fun in that?

I think it will happen, the marker is fairly new, so I'd give manufacturers a little time to either refine what they've done in the past, or design a new one.

The hollow appearance in the back half that some bolts have - the bird cage area as some of you have called it - typically means that the bolt is actually two separate pieces that are either press-fit or threaded together. If that area had been drilled through from the front of a single piece bolt, it would just leak perpetually like what happened to Danssoslow's bolt.

That design feature actually has a negative effect on airflow, but it can sometimes make the bolt light enough to offset the flow impairment by letting it open faster.

Deathwish and I have a new bolt that is being machined right now and should be in our hands mid April. If testing on it goes as anticipated, we will probably have two versions of it, one that operates similarly to a standard two tail o-ring bolt but with a completely different layout for improved flow and reduced pre-expansion volume, and another with a few extra pieces that has the capability of trapping some residual air pressure in the can to further boost the efficiency. We're having bolt stops made for it that will let it work with both classic Ions and the newer XE based system which includes the enmey.

Trinity Paintball Sick Bolt Upgrade - GOG eNMEy - PaintballDelivery.com
This looks very much like the Redz bolt, which had worse efficiency.
