AGC Grenade a disappointment

Well it's a good thing I was in the Army. Because I didn't receive instructions. Instinct just said pull the pin and throw. 5 sec,10 sec.15 sec.finally 20 sec and bang.

Let's start from the begining:
This is what it came in. A butter container of some sort. The packaging was bubble wrap on the outside of this container:

I could tell that the paint was green, because there was a small leak. Wish I would have taken a picture, but I didn't. My fault.

After the long awaited bag here are the results of splatter. Nice thick fill: Pay close attention to the metal frag that blows off.

What it looks like inside. All I see here are a lot of stiches and field owner medical builds climbing. Note the sharp edges on the inside fire mechanism. This can cut open a knee/leg on a diving or sliding player.

My over all view is that of an unsafe item that can cause more damage then good. Field owners would have to police frags on a constant basis.
What you see in the pictures above is the entire distance parts and paint traveled when blown up.
This may sound bias to some, because I make my own paint grenades. However those that know me,know I only tell the truth about products that I have used. I'm more used to an affect such as this:

However I do see a great application for these. They would best be suited for real life military training in a training town (mount site). The feel is close to the real thing. The spoon operates the same way as a normal frag.
If I were this company,I would get the fire mechanism to work properly and push these for military training applications. Cook off time is important in training, and for now it just seems un reliable for even that type of application.
Comments good or bad are welcome. My over all recommendation is to keep these off the field. For the price, they were a little to high, but I just had to check it out. I gave these guys a good feed back on Ebay. For the shipping and getting it to me. It did arrive in one peice. I would buy from them again if the item was better improved on, safer and more reliable.
Later,
Blackrain

Maybe you should try making your own cook off grenades. Bigger bang = better.

Well I'm not into the bang effect. That was about the best thing, the bang . I would scare the smaller kids.

What causes the explosion? It seems you could do a lot with just a chemical...i.e. vinegar and baking soda...explosion and it would be safer.

Funny that should come up....

Im working on something that is more or less a squad buster grenade with one side being tied off and filled with a slightly acidic paint fill and then filling the other side with baking soda...

I blame you Blackrain.. ever since your insight on grenade fills and such ive been busy messing with ideas.

As for a fragmenting paint grenade Im pretty sure most insurances have banned them thus why the M69 strange ordinance grenade went away.

Strange Ordinance went away because it was an explosive being shipped across state lines without the required labels and paperwork.

Yep, red tape killed it.

I like things that go bang, but that grenade looks like an ouchy waiting to happen.

Thanks for the good review.

Tom Cat at AGO5 posted this:

I first discovered these fancy new paintball grenades after one of the Mercenary membership returned with one from Operation Market Garden at Tactik Paintball in Quebec.......props to Steve of Tactik and Ghost who introduced them with a full 45 minute lecture on safety training pertaining to their usage, they look pretty cool huh?.......but......
I am now seeing them for sale in several areas of the paintball world......and that same safety message is not accompanying the sales....let me be perfectly frank...these grenades carry a paint gel pack or smoke etc etc and are set off with a 22 calibre charge. Now although its just a blank....the percentage chance of injury without proper safety training opens some pretty serious consequences should it inadvertently go off as otherwise intended...at a recent game 1 in 3 were duds...and I also noted one go off by simply rolling off the display table.....if it goes off in ones hand....or without the proper paintball gear on the results could be disastrous.....not to mention so many kids who are involved in this game who are not mature enough to use something like this device wisely.
I am not altogether happy to see them for sale and would ask those with a more intimate knowledgeable of the inner workings of this grenade (I classify it as an actual firearm) to please post up your safety warnings and thoughts.
.....if a bad incident were to occur...and that likelihood is very strong from what I have seen and understood, then it is just another nail in the coffin of scenario paintball as we know it......it is in fact a very real concern and should be for all of us that enjoy this sport

I've been making vinegar and baking soda "bombs" since I was a little kid. When you mix them up, the end result is water and CO2 gas, which is nice.

I had thought about the same idea too before. Never had time to persue it though. Good luck with your granades.
