the carbon on the raincover is going the wrong way though...is it possible to put it on the other way, so the carbon weave matches the barrel?

I'm curious to hear your shooting video. I finally put a scotch brite in mine on a 16" dw barrel. Sounds pretty much the same to me with or without it. I probably should have done a video to listen to it side by side.

Still haven't made it yet. School starts tomorrow and I was a late transfer...so it's been a bit hectic around here. I'll try to get one when I catch a break.

Also, I am going to experiment with a few new rain absorbing inserts,

Not sure how well it would work but sound dampening material used in recording studios may abosorb the rain.

Remember, rain limiting material needs to be porous and water/paint resistant. Scrubbies, foam, etc work well. If dynamat is non-porous and rubbery it likely won't work at all.
