Mokal Aura

I haven't kept up much on this marker, but was wondering if anyone has made a review about it.
Mokal Inc. has general information on this marker, but I have yet to see any intelligent information from paintballers pertaining to this marker.
I was wondering if any MCB members tried it or have any reviews, good or bad. I am aware of how it operates and the factory specifications, but that's about it.

Hmmm thats pretty interesting. I own a E-Fokus from when they first came out and also have a mirage. Kal the owner is a decent guy also.

The gun is most likely the same as his STBB Fokus with a new frame.

Fancy that, a BEOG guy interested in a new Electro STBB.

I asked Kal yesterday if there were any distributors in Minnesota that would have an Aura for me to fondle. Alas, no. I didn't think to ask about Wisconsin.

Looking at the manual, it appears to have all of the features you'd want in a modern electronic gun. The regulator adapter is non-standard, but the reg itself may not suck. Have they done a reg since the Ultipro?

They still use a u-cup seal on the hammer, which ought to allow the hammer to recock with much less gas, making the gun more efficient.

The valve is clever; they took part of the surface area of the cupseal away with a telescoping stem into the front cap. That ought to reduce the force required to open the valve by a few pounds, at least.

The connectors on the board are huge and ugly, but are of a type that withstands lots of remove-and-replace cycles without breaking the wire. This is good for tinkerers.

If they still build markers like they built my Mirage and Titan, it'll be well made.

I wish it wasn't $250 and it wasn't Christmastime.

Haha, I'm just trying to keep up on new stuff- it helps when you do part time work for a proshop.
I was mainly curious if anyone has any experience with the marker. Performance, feel, first impressions, etc..

I'd be on the BEOG a heck of a lot more if it weren't down.

Well there you go! Hook up with Mokal through the ProShop; maybe they'll send the shop one to review.

Replied to your PM. Thanks for the tip- kinda kicking myself for not thinking of that before, haha.

I like the idea. I like to see refinements to the blowback system.

I would like to see a mechanical version of this gun, with all of its features minus the electronics.

Why would they not use a standard ASA adapter though =/

I got one in my store as soon as they came out. Being a Mokal fan, I was very interested to check it out.

First impression out of the box was "wow its small".

All metal and no plastic, 12" cocker threaded barrel, impulse threaded clamping feed neck, on/off asa with blead(regulator holds a shot though), delrin bolt, adjustable trigger(one point) and a 38 page manual.

It weighs 2 pounds 7 ounces (same as a stock ion) and has a nice balance.

The bolt is a two piece design with delrin in the front and aluminum in the back, with a 2 position steel pin. (won't have to worry about the pin coming out because the delrin hole widened with play.)

The feed neck is a allen screw clamp. that holds tite and is still only an inch high over the top of the gun.

The asa is mounted to a standard dove tail mount that has 2 pressure screws in the side of the grip frame that force 2 steel ball bearings out the bottom.

The regulator is proprietary to the gun, and can't be changed it seems to work well.

the trigger looks a little odd to me but sits comfortably and allows for a decent fate of fire.

The manual is very well done with color photos and breakdowns for everything. even the electronic solenoid. the only thing left out was how to shut the marker off (just put it in sake mode and it shuts down on its own.)

The metal eye covers sit over a spring loaded ball detent.

The only thing I dont like is the grips. they are the same ones used on the EVX model. no other grips will fit

The electronics are easy to manipulate from the buttons on the back of the grip. 5 modes of fire semi, 3 round burst(locked at 10 bps, full auto (locked 10 bps) and 2 ramp modes.
rate of fire is controlled with dip switches under the grip panel. 14,16,18,25 bps with the marker having no problem cycling air at 25bps in ramp modes.

Over all the marker is impressive. I have shot compressed air tanks well below 500 psi with no problems cycling.
although the asa is not pitched correctly for co2, I put a anti-syphon tank on it and shot it dry. the marker got very cold but cycled flawlessly until the tank was empty.

Im sorry I dont have any chrono numbers or an efficiency test. but I know it gets a more shots then most electro-pneumatic guns.
