FS-8 from the now defunct ICD

I just acquired a FS-8 and I thought I'd give it a review just because they're so cheap now. I won't even say how much I got mine for...it was a steal.

First thing I noticed: it leaked out of the box! I almost freaked out and started to get the guts out to check the O-rings, but then I remembered that a lot of people selling ICD guns are idiots who think their guns are broken when they're not. So I checked the HPR pressure and it was low at 180 psi. Knocked it up to 250 and it was shooting like a champ with no leaking! Hooray!

I loaded up a hopper and did some quick snapping in the backyard. It's light, but it's not eGo 7/8 light. It's probably on par with an 06 Infamous Timmy or a eTek. It's very well balanced though, and I love the humpback frame. The CP Trigger that's already on there rocks, and in semi I was getting 12 or 13 bps easy (that's my normal limit). With the 68/4500 Macdev and CP ASA, it's just the right length for me and points very well.

What really stands out to me is that unlike the aforementioned guns, this gun is extremely quiet with my Lucky Unitec and has NO kick. I mean NO kick. I just had a DM5 with UL in my hands a couple of months ago, and while it's comparable, the DM5 still had more kick. The sound is also not only minimized with the Freestyle, but it has a different signature as well. Not a pop or a burp like other guns...more like a pffftt sound.

I need to get more air to properly check efficiency, but I used up maybe 600 psi with about 180 balls. I also need to actually spend a day with it to give a wholehearted approval from me, but it's got a tentative "great" rating from me. I would take this over many other guns, disregarding the awesome price I got it for. Taking into account the price...best thing out on the used market right now.

Edit: So I thought my gun had the stock Pred Lite board and I was having trouble programming it. I took a closer look and it has NOX written in the corner. WOOT! I was going to buy a Nox board because I love them so much, but this one already has it and it kicks butt. I put it on ramping and my gun was spitting out a laser of paint. I thought it was quite a bit more than the standard 15 (soon to be 13...which this board doesn't support), and it was on unlimited. So who knows...with the XSV Vlocity, I was almost certainly past the 21 bps range. Still no kick. Amazing.

Edit #2: A teeny leak developed so I decided to lube the gun. I used Hater Sauce v2 because I figured that I'm going to have to replace the O-rings soon anyways (because it's leaking) and I may as well see if I can use this (since I have a tub of it) versus the Superlube (which I would have to buy online). At first the gun wouldn't shoot, but I popped the dwell up to 15 ms from 10 ms, lowered the HPR, and the gun was up to speed and actually shooting a little more quietly and smoothly. I'm sure I've lost a few hundred shots worth of efficiency per fill, but I don't dump a lot of paint anyways. The reduced sound signature is well worth it. I also found Training mode on the Nox board, which is cool...it caps you to 3bps.

Edit #3: Hater sauce wasn't working out so well in the cold, so I cracked and bought super lube online. Lowered the dwell, and efficiency has improved significantly. Really happy with this puppy.
