Nice review...I like how the pants held up after 6 months, but are there any crotch or hip pads?

Nope. But I do not see this as a negative. Slider shorts could cure this.

I've worn Smokin pants for almost 5 years now, they are the ONLY pants that last for me.

They are one of the few that fit taller players right (I'm 6"3") and the newest versions with the cordura instead of the hemp seem even tougher.

My hemp ones lasted almost 3 years of continuous use (once to twice a week) before the left knee shredded.

Make sure to get the optional knee pads with them....

I don't like wearing slider shorts, but I guess that's a personal thing. How do these things breathe? Is there any mesh or anything like that? Or are they good winter pants? I have a pair of Raven pants that are made of really heavy nylon and they're very tough and comfortable fitting, but they don't breathe at all. Unwearable if it's above 70 degrees unless you want to take them off every 5 minutes to cool down.

I think they breathe better than those that have mesh in them. They are very nice.

I have a pair of the old style that is made of hemp. I've had them for what's coming up on 4 years (bought them at OK D-Day '04) and since then, they have been my near-exclusive pant of choice. Stitching is still rock solid and hasn't frayed at all. They breathe like none other, are very comfortable to wear, and when clean they look like black-dyed jeans. Nice casual, yet very versatile and useful pants. The only reason I might get ANOTHER pair would be for some color change-up, and that's it. These things are incredibly durable.
