| SP Apex adapter tip for freak So I played a game with a stock Apex barrel on my microsniper and it was absolutely abysmal in terms of accuracy (admittedly it could have been the old paint or the light showers, but I'm happy enough saying it was the stock Apex barrel.) So with the conclusion that a stock Apex sucks, I decided to buy the Freak tip that SP made for them. I received it the other day and would like to pass along these initial thoughts before I give a full review after use later this month. Now this is the first and last piece of SP equipment that I will ever pay full price for. Everything else I have or had I either bought on clearance or used. The only reason I went this route was because I already have a freak back for my BKO, Blazer, and my cocker threaded guns so it gives me versatility with the Apex tip to really see if it's all it's cracked up to be. First off, I can't begin to tell you how difficult it is to find these things. Smart Parts doesn't even list them on their website nor do they sell them through their online store ![]() I did finally find one at paintballgateway.com So it arrives and I open the package. There's an odd whitish dust ring at the one end of the barrel (not a big deal, it wiped right off) but one thing that I did find bothersome was that there weren't any o-rings at the Apex end of this barrel. Luckily I had taken the o-rings off of the stock barrel so it was an easy transplant. Now I shouldn't be surprised by this cost-cutting measure considering who I'm talking about, but the devil's in the details. I screwed it onto all of my freak back and it does fit just fine. The dust color it is does look a tad odd since all of the freak backs I have are gloss, but it's a minor detail. Also considering the wonderfully fine threading of these it was a bit interesting to get to thread onto a freak back until the anno started to wear down a touch (I could always remove the o-ring to add a bit of slop and make it catch easier) I'll update with some more after I use it some... |

| Seasoned Member | A local player today had one of these and was quite enjoying it. I believe he kept the Apex in the off position most of the time, but when he needed a flatter shot, or to try a hook shot, he's just reach up, turn it on, twist in the desired position, and he'd be good to go. I'm thinking of picking one up for my Freak collection. Sure I dislike the SP business practices and gun quality as much as the next guy (and a player said my Viking looked like an Impulse today ), but I've always liked their barrels.

| Yeah, I got a Freak on the Automag, and the Viking, and an All American back on my Shocker. But, I have always had good results with the Freak system. On the Apex, I get the feeling that alot of the problems in accuracy could be caused by having paint that isn't 100% round (none ever is), I get the feeling that if one side has even 1% more traction than the other side of the ball, the curve could be thrown quite a bit off. I shot one on a Tippmann, and I didn't think it was terribly accurate, but it seemed like it did what it claimed to do alright. |
