mokal aura

does anyone no anything about the mokal aura, I saw it and liked that it had autococker barrel threads (over a vs2), and I also liked that it was stacked tube (over an slg). I'd think that it would be more reliable and simpler to maintain than an electropneumatic. Does anybody now how good the air effeciency is, cause I play with a 45/45 and would like at least 800 shots. Also is there anything funky about it that I need to know.

From my understanding the Aura is a STBB (Stacked Tube Blow Back) the same as any electro spyder. The reason they're more expensive is I believe they're manufactured in Canada unlike many other Spyder clones and are held to higher tolerances and standard of quality.

Just like any STBB most problems could be fixed by a new cupseal or some oil. I've never ran air on a blowback but the Aura runs at about 50 psi lower than a Spyder VS2 so you could expect 800 shots pretty easily.

If you're looking for a STBB with many modes a clamping feedneck and magnetic trigger they're definitely the height of their design. They'll keep up with anything out there at legal speeds, but IMO for a little more money you could step up a level technology wise.

Hope this helps,
Penguin

I have several Mokal markers and have been very happy with their performance ove rthe years. I have a bunch of mirages i used as field rentals that even after years of abuse still work great.

I really just want a marker that's simple to maintain, and I saw a kit on actionvillage that came with a 47/3k for $200, I'm gonna be playing renagade ball mostly this summer and so having a 45/45, and 2 47/3k's would give me close to a case easily. I'll play with my sniper for a while to save money and decide if I wan't to spend more money on pump instead of semi, plus I'm trying to by an xbox and a new rack for my punching bag and that will cost quite a bit.

the slg is not electro-pneumatic. its mechanical. its a sear tripper, just like an Eblade on a cocker. very very reliable and easy to maintain. i would recommend it over the aura. plus with the SLG, you get dye's great customer support.

read my review in the MCB reviews it section for further info.

Why?

Mokal has always been good on customer support for me. I don't see why you need to go Dye and support the made in china/taiwan crap.

the Aura is made right here in north america; to give you an idea of the reliability, i use a Mokal Titan as a backup for my Automags....

I wrote this back in December when they first came out.

Quote:
I got one in my store as soon as they came out. Being a Mokal fan, I was very interested to check it out.

First impression out of the box was "wow its small".

All metal and no plastic, 12" cocker threaded barrel, impulse threaded clamping feed neck, on/off asa with blead(regulator holds a shot though), delrin bolt, adjustable trigger(one point) and a 38 page manual.

It weighs 2 pounds 7 ounces (same as a stock ion) and has a nice balance.

The bolt is a two piece design with delrin in the front and aluminum in the back, with a 2 position steel pin. (won't have to worry about the pin coming out because the delrin hole widened with play.)

The feed neck is a allen screw clamp. that holds tite and is still only an inch high over the top of the gun.

The asa is mounted to a standard dove tail mount that has 2 pressure screws in the side of the grip frame that force 2 steel ball bearings out the bottom.

The regulator is proprietary to the gun, and can't be changed it seems to work well.

the trigger looks a little odd to me but sits comfortably and allows for a decent fate of fire.

The manual is very well done with color photos and breakdowns for everything. even the electronic solenoid. the only thing left out was how to shut the marker off (just put it in sake mode and it shuts down on its own.)

The metal eye covers sit over a spring loaded ball detent.

The only thing I dont like is the grips. they are the same ones used on the EVX model. no other grips will fit

The electronics are easy to manipulate from the buttons on the back of the grip. 5 modes of fire semi, 3 round burst(locked at 10 bps, full auto (locked 10 bps) and 2 ramp modes.
rate of fire is controlled with dip switches under the grip panel. 14,16,18,25 bps with the marker having no problem cycling air at 25bps in ramp modes.

Over all the marker is impressive. I have shot compressed air tanks well below 500 psi with no problems cycling.
although the asa is not pitched correctly for co2, I put a anti-syphon tank on it and shot it dry. the marker got very cold but cycled flawlessly until the tank was empty.

Im sorry I dont have any chrono numbers or an efficiency test. but I know it gets a more shots then most electro-pneumatic guns.
Quote:
Ok so I ran some paint over the chrono.
I used some Pro-caps classic left over from last year. some settling of the paint but the seem pretty round.

Stock gun right out of the box with a 68-4500 hp crossfire tank shot 301 298 305. I adjusted the regulator clockwise and brought it down.
It then shot 279 282 282 285 280 279.

I then put a tight bore dye excell barrel on it and fire 295 292 292 294 293.

not bad for the stock barrel and the dye made the numbers tighter.

I wouldn't worry about the reg on this gun, Mokal made one of the very first regulated blow-back semis (Ulti-pro) in the early 90's and has been making a very good tank regulator for quite a few years.

ps. I just laid the Aura on top of an 07 ego, and from top of the feed neck to the bottom of the asa they are exactly the same height, the trigger frame and bolt pin are in the same positions and the reg is slight shorter on the Aura. the back of the gun is also one inch shorter the the ego. the Aura also doesn't have a lp regulator under the barrel.
The Aura is 9 oz heavier.
Am I saying that the guns will shoot the same? No. but for a gun that is just over $200 its smaller then a $1000 gun that claims to be the smallest on the market.
Now I love Tippmann's but they are not the gun you want for speed ball, even if you have the e-kit. but if your looking for a budget conscious marker that doesn't need any upgrades, the this is something you need to look into.

We use Mokal Focus and Auras as rentals. The Fokus is a direct spyder clone (albeit better construction) and the Aura is similar in design and function to a Bushmaster 2k series. Again, much better construction quality and warranty than their respective counterparts. Even a refurbed one will perform well.

I ended up getting a spyder rs because it was a good deal at the local shop (truepaintball), and Jeremy rewarded my purchase by giving me a pretty nice little spyder backpack, so I think I came out all right, I'm just having some minor issues with the board, but for now I works great, carefull though, out of the box a fitting leaked, we just took it off and taped it up and It works great now, the on-off asa is a nice feature.
