A million people cut the cord in the last 3 months, and cable companies are worried

Thought this was a short article telling us what we already knew:

A million people cut the cord in the last 3 months, and cable companies are worried – BGR

I was one of them.

Cheaper TV is good for the consumer. Sure the businesses will suffer, but they will need to transform. They've been living high on the hog for too long.

Directvnow and slingtv.

Heck, I recently purchased a Roku television set at best buy for my office a week or two ago. All built into the TV. Now I have Directv, antenna tv, netflix, and a ton of free stations from Roku.

Heck if you wanted to live on the real cheap and not pay for any TV, the free stations from Roku could honestly be enough.

Take the money you save and put it into acorns.com or betterment.com

The TV and internet service around here used to be run by a small local company and it cost $75 a month for internet, TV HBO Cinemax Showtime, all of it. They got bought out and the new company raised their rates every 3 months until it's now 150 a month for internet and basic TV. I cancelled and I just get internet for $70 a month. So far I can watch all the TV I want online for free and I have a lot more time to work on paintball markers.

While this is great and I love my Netflix, there are still people out here that do not have high speed internet available so we are stuck with directv/satellite TV unfortunately. Isn't it crazy some people have 1gbps internet and I can't even get dsl 3 miles away from town.

The biggest cost saver for me is taxes. Internet only, by law, cannot be taxed other then a utility pole fee/municipal construction tax (usually around $2). If you have cable, phone, and internet in the city of Chicago there are 19 different taxes that get levied against you.

Telling the cable company to go **** themselves is OK, still pay for internet, but telling the city of Chicago to go **** them selves outta the $20-$30 in straight taxes a month felt even better.

We've had internet only for years. A good antenna for over the air broadcast goes a long way. I had have a nettop computer with XBMC (now Kodi) on it, but switched to a TCL TV (Roku built in) & Netflix due to complaining from the wife that the old setup was too complicated. Also, many libraries let you check out DVDs for free, which is a great way to get extra content if you don't mind waiting a few months after release to watch them. Honestly, I get annoyed most of the time when watching live TV because of all the damn commercials.

I cut the cord years ago. I used to pay 80 a month for tv and net. Most of the tv channels I didn't watch. Now I pay 35 a month for net and have an antenna. I get the major stations and am happy!

Chicago. I've read somewhere that Cook County's top 5-10 biggest employers are different parts of the gov't even one of school districts has a spot. So no surprise they'll try to get every dime and nickel you have.

We cut the cord as well.

Why pay for tons and tons of channels when we only ever watched 2-3?
