Love Rakim.

Jurassic 5 is up there for me and this is one of the tightest songs I have ever heard:

Wu-Tang Clan is also where I think it's at, especially ODB, RZA and Method. RZA is a very talented guy. Zach de la Rocha (from Rage Against the Machine) is also a sick rapper and is quite the poet.

The best hip hop album to come out of the wu collective was GZA's first Liquid Swords. if it's not in your crate, your missing it.

NWA
Ice Cube
Ice T six in the morning and colors birthed gangster rap.

also check out the kool g rap video i put in my first post....that is hip hop.

Oh yeah Rakim, how could i leave him out, and for that matter EPMD. Kids of today have no idea what hip hop is or was.
They have soulja boy and I feel bad for them.

I'm more of a Native Tongues kind of guy. De La Soul, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, The Roots.

I really never fell in love with Wu Tang but I do like Kanye's stuff and a little Jay Z once in a while.
