Free Audio Editing Software?

Hey folks,

I'm looking to assemble something of a mashup track. I'm pretty proficient with cutting and adjusting audio in Audacity but can anyone recommend good (free) software to actually compile the final track/timeline? I mean, I could use something goofy like AfterEffects or Final Cut Pro but I'm sure there's better stuff out there for audio-only.

Thanks,
Matt

Sony Sound Forge was good for me when I used it back in 2008-2009. I don't think it's offered on a Mac, and since you mentioned FCP I assume you are Mac based.

If you are on a Macintosh, just use GarageBand. It's an awesome piece of free software. If not, Sony Vegas is very good. I use it at my church to record and export live broadcasts weekly without issues.

Oh duh, GarageBand makes a lot of sense. I can cut everything down in Audacity so I'm basically dropping loops.

Thanks!

Pro tools. There is no substitute!! I have been using it since going to recording school in 1989, in one form or another. While not free, it is the best.

I've had good luck using Goldwave. Has a decent trail if I remember it gave you like 200 button presses per session.

I did my four year degree in broadcasting. For audio we always used Adobe Audition. It's a quality program, and I'm sure you can download a free trial and mess around with it.

Audacity 1.3 Beta works extremely well for audio editing. I can't remember if it's free or not but a torrent should be only a few mbs.
