Mac Battery Dying:
Well, after 3 years the battery on my Mac'n'top of dying and I'm thinking about sending it in for a new one. Also, the disc drive has been making weird noises after I dropped it about a foot onto ceramic tile. But first, I have some questions:
Has anyone done this before? The reason I ask is because I don't know if it would be better to replace the battery? Or just get a new one? (I'm not sure how much they'll charge when all is said and done.)
Also, I do online banking, paypal, as well as keep other personal information on my Mac. Is it enough to clear browser histories, and delete files after copying them to a Portable HD?
I'm really paranoid about people getting a hold of my personal or financial information if you can't tell. And, while I don't think the Apple Repair people would go through my stuff, you never know...

Go into, or call, one of the stores, see how much they'll charge you. Then, look around online and see if you can beat their price. The one thing about buying direct is that, you've got a good chance of getting a new battery, online, it could be a refurb or used.

best bet and cheaper than buying a whole new battery is having your present one rebuilt. They replace the old cells with new ones so you get essentially a new battery without paying for new circuitry and a casing when in essence all you need are new cells.

Get one of these:
Battery, Rechargeable: MacBook Pro 17, TruePower - FastMac
every apple geek I know swears by them, they work (to borrow a song lyric) harder, better, faster, stronger, than the standard battery.
