Cool The Zen of being New

...while being old.

Hello MCB Forumites! I joined MCB on the recommendation of a colleague and fellow Canadian who goes by the avatar "Boonie Boy." I've been playing off-and on since 1982, as work/life balance permits.

A little bit older and slower than when I started, (but with a lot more disposable income ), I'm looking to find some vintage markers and start a collection. This seems to be the place!

Regards,
Skeetgunner

You will find we have nearly every gun you couldn't afford when you were young(er) here. It's like a smorgasbord of vintage markers, I'm sure we can hook you up with something. Welcome aboard.

82? I did not realize paintball hit Canada that quick. I am sure we would love to hear some of your stories from back in the day. You may even end up finding some folks you lost touch with. Welcome and watch your wallet.

Welcome!
If there's something paintball related, and doesn't have a knowledge base on this forum, it may very well be imaginary. Bear in mind, though, even those can be tinkered with....

Now's a good time to be collecting. Not only is the economy down, but prices are lowest in the winter.

It sure did! The first games were played in London Ontario in early 1982 and word spread though the high-school network pretty quick. By late summer 1982 there was an outfit running on HWY 6 and Sixth Concession West in Flamborough (north of Hamilton). It was "capture the flag" played on a Hydro right of way and a swamp. I played one game. And was hooked!

They had Nelspot 007's, and you were given 4 12gr cartridges and 1 tube of paint. You removed the cork (it was a cork stopper), filled the tube on top of the barrel and gave the paint tube back. You played with the paint you had in the gun. No holsters, no face shields, just basic safety glasses that had an elastic strap to hold them on. And it was all rental guns.

I think the name of the place was "The Great Canadian Challenge Game" but there's no record of it that I can find. It may not have operated in 1983; it was a seasonal, part time affair. In 84-86 I played 2 games (one in July and one in August) of each year. If you showed up with 10 players, TGCCG would give you a break on the rental deposit. Since I was usually the organizer, I go the discount. I remember playing in Brooklyn Ontario (east of Toronto) in late fall '86...it was a frosty day. They had real fields, with wooden structures and bunkers by then.

University, college and needing a job interrupted my playing until about 94.

Was it The Great Canadian Adventure Game? My dad played his first game in the early 80's at a field near London and didn't like it because he said it was mostly survival nuts playing.
