They are one of the best nelson based guns around though and if I were buying a new production nelson gun it would be a phantom. Even if there were many more available choices. However as for your particular situation you have a nice nelson gun and like it. Keep it enjoy it switching to a phantom would be like selling ( oh I don't have a more current analogy but ... ) An egale talon ts to buy a mitsubushi eclipse ts in a different color and with power windows.

Sorry for sounding a bit out of control there and speaking mostly nonsense. Phantoms and other nelsons auto trigger, but the new deal seems to be shooting a pump gun as fast as possible and its mostly always with a CCM gun. "laning" with a pump isnt any cooler than doing it with an electro. I just dont dig it! It used to be a lot hipper to have a stock class phantom from what ive seen <on PBN> and now CCM with a monkey bar or whatever on the pump handle and shooting as quickly as possible is the thing to do. Id take a hounds over a Chipley gun any day. I guess all i am saying is what the donkey or horse says in ren and stimpy "No sir, I dont like it" Kinda off topic. Phantoms are top notch goodness and feature all of the advancements of the nelson valvetrain and only lack in maybe a nice centerfeed out of the box and it is easy to mod them to take ego feednecks which are just fine. | |

I figured I better give it a try, as I do with most of my pumps. Not so big on it, but the smooth buttery action does let me fire in that style a lot more precisely than with most others. I have always been more of a pump/shoot kinda guy, but it is nice to know it is there. My CCM is the most spartan of any of my pumps, even my plain-jane all black VSC is more flashy. I do see what you are saying, with the "hit man" mods and such. I just figure that more people playing pump is a good thing. They are just making it fit the style of game they prefer. In my experience, most of them are back to electros or semis within a few times out with the pump. It gets frustrating, even for a long time pumper. Still glad to see more younger folks givin it a try. Nice to show up and have 4 or 5 pumps at the field instead of just me and my few buddies that have played pump for years.

| MCB Member | Paintball is a fun game. Phantoms, CCM snipers, other nelsons, sheridans, and all semi autos shoot me at about the same velocity and i am happy to be shot and to shoot with any of them He has a RF series five pump. I think the SS25 looks great, I like its look better than the current guns, it looks like a minicocker body with a pump kit, totally sweet. I really think all of the ccm guns look super though. |

| Blaster of Muppets | The phantom is cool for a few reasons. First is it's quality. Every part on it is either well-finished aluminum or stainless steel. A lot of other nelsons I've had have problems with the frame screws stripping the shallow threads in the body but the phantom has stainless inserts in the body so it's not a problem. I love that about phantoms. Second is the reliability. With stainless internals the gun will last forever. I just got an early unibody phantom and the only thing that is even a little worn inside is the bolt has some discoloring in the chrome from wear. That's it. The cup seal looks identical to my other phantom I bought a year ago as do the rest of the parts. It goes back to quality. The last reason that phantoms are awesome is their performance. I've never shot another nelson that was as good as a phantom. Phantoms are quiet, dead accurate and awesome on gas. Compared to one of my trracers the phantom gets almost 30% more shots off a 12 gram, is far quieter (I think due to the efficiency of the valving), and is a million times more durable. After a couple years using my NOS trracer the bolt has a pretty good sized wear mark in the bottom where the sear catches because the bolt is aluminum. The unibody I have has NO mark at all there. The way I see it, the phantom is head and shoulders above any lower cost nelsons and as good but cheaper than higher end custom nelsons. The best way to go for a nelson is a phantom (unless you can get a nice clean Bushmaster).

| Active Member Join Date: Sep 2006 | My phantom has a better pumpstroke than my buzzard, which is weird, seeing how I'd say about every other person likes their buzzard for the "better pump stroke". Used a sheridans, buzzards, TASOs and bushmasters, but I still prefer my phantom. IMO, detent rings work just as well as any controlled bore barrel, with the exception of the efficiency aspect (I play with a 3.5 oz, so it doesn't make a difference, for me). Only thing I've replaced on the phantom was the barrel, and that was with a 12 inch boomstick. I only replaced the stock barrel because I needed a tighter bore. My 4 year old phantom has never gone down, with the exception of the valve blowing out in 35 celsius weather using CO2, but Mike has always corrected whatever problems that have arisen (even if the source of the problem was me :P) |

| MCB Member Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Philadelphia, PA | I've bought my SC phantom in 2000 and since then it's been my go to gun. In all these years I've only had to change one o-ring. Which is pretty damn good. I've run it with a 3.5 oz co2 tank, 12 grams, 13ci hpa and even a 68 4500 hundred on it and it worked well with it. I've used as a pistol as well with only a few parts needed. When I get a hopper for it that'll be a thirty dollar part for a whole new body. I could do anything to this marker and it can match almost any play style I need it to with only a few no tools needed changes. I love this marker. Though using a 10" unported palmer barrel it is kinda loud. But sometimes I like loud. |
