I've decided recently to pick up a second air tank. I've been using a 48ci 3000psi and I get plenty of shots off of it, being that I don't use an electro so the fastest thing I'd shoot is a mech, and normally I'm playing pump anyway. I see a lot of guys using 45ci 4500psi tanks and even 68ci tanks. Is there some inherent benefit to switching to higher pressure carbon fiber tanks, or would a steel one treat me just fine? I figure I get about 400 shots off of a 48/30, and I only play at fields with compressed air available. How many shots would a 45/45 give me roughly? And is there any weight difference between the two? I also understand that fiber tanks have to be retired at a certain point, so I'd have to eventually buy a new tank if I went with fiber, where a steel tank can be used forever so long as it passes hydro. I'm just trying to figure out if the $100 difference is worth it for someone who isn't a tourny player?

smaller and lighter means faster snap shooting, and quicker on target... 45/4500 for the win. anything smaller is a pain and anything bigger is not necessary - esp. for pump. Seems like a new 45/4500 was around $125 last time I checked.

Not sure on shot count but it is a bit more. I have both (48/3 steel and 45/45 fiber). I would definately go with the fiber tank. Weight difference is very noticible. If you can wait a few weeks till the pump nights start at asylum, you can try my 45/45.

There is a significant weight difference. I recently switched up from a 48/3000 to a 45/4500 and am thrilled with how much lighter my sniper is.

Current fiber tanks should have a 5 year re-hydro and a 15 year overall lifespan. Yes, I'd suggest trying a few different tank sizes to see what fits you best. I usually use 68/4500s. The physical size fits me well. The benefit to me of the larger tank is that even if I have way more air than I need for playing pump, I have lots left over to test guns and whatever at home.
