The Mini and Axe are pressure controlled poppets. Other examples of inline poppets include Marqs, Victorys, Etha, and Tippmanns. Being a single tube does not make it a spool valve gun.

This might help ya in distinguishing the difference:

I just guessed that it was because of the innate preference for spool valves in modern markers, that surprises me. Mah bad sir! Good looks on correcting me. Sounds like a spoolie when it fires.

Love the link, Thanks man!

"I'd go with a used Axe for around $300. Don't even worry if it's 'broken'. Empire offers a lifetime warrenty that transfers to whoever owns the gun"

Wow, looks like I may have to turn to the Taiwanese stuff after all.

If your planning to play seriously with your electro, pick up a mini or an axe. I played a few games with an axe and loved it (I'm 6'2" and can palm a basket ball off the dribble). Why not go for something a little more fun? for 500 you could build a kick *ss custom ion or maybe pick up a used e-bladed cocker and still have money to grab a nice hopper and tank.

I'm going to 5th the Axe recommendation, I have seen them as little as 250.00 used, but the average is around 300-350 used. Used rotor will run around 100.00 and used tanks run around the same. Swapmytank.com has some good deals on tanks, check them out. Minimag is 100% correct, the Axe is as solid as a performer as any other gun 2-3x its price.

i suggest a dm6 and up or pm7-8 with a rotor the rotor is practically indestructible and a 68 45 just bc you have longer arms i have had nothing but bad experiences with empire guns so i dont like them every dm i have owned never let me down they shoot smooth and quiet you should be able to get all three for $500

TF has a point. Then you can spend your 500 bucks on field fees
