I've lurked here for a while but the super-cool projects and discussions here have got me jonesing for the Old Times.
My first gun was purchased at Skirmish The Store in '89. Skirmish SI on a 007 frame with lever change, still have it. Although it's barrel/body was replaced with a Fieldmaster SI for some reason I can't remember.
I played my frst game at Sat Cong Village the same year. My entry into the sport was getting hit in the mask by someone clearing their gun from across Vietnam in the first 15 seconds, right after that I fell into a bunch of stinging nettles. The next game I managed to take hit on the wrist while opening a tent-flap that drew blood. So I am THAT AWESOME!
Needless to say I had the best time ever.
Played at the various Santa Clarita fields mostly and I helped Dave Bassman build and ref'ed at Close Encounters Malibu Canyon in '91 (or maybe '92 it's fuzzy.) Joined the IPPA and had lots of laughs. Then I got a job that took me into the wilderness and I didn't play much paintball until I setttled in Colorado for a couple of years. I bought an EXC-68 for that run.
I've bought some gear here and there that looked interesting but I never got into the Electro-Whizzo-Paintstorm. I remember when Speedball was the thing that killed John Belushi. I guess I'm a die hard stock pump and 1st gen mechanical semi-auto luddite.
Fast forward to career changes, ex-wives, and two kids and I'm ready for my paintball mid-life crisis. It's heartening to see some folks my age around here.
I've been working on rehabbing a Nelspot 007. Here's that:
I hope to hit some games soon. I look forward to reading and posting.

I'm liking how your Nellie came out, what did you use for a coating?
Looks like "Steel-It".
Have you upgraded the internals?

As a younger member here (yes, we do exist) I say welcome! The Los Angeles area has a very solid paintball scene with alot of players committed to pump and other limited styles of gameplay. Like Woulf said before me, you should check out the West coast section. Us MCBers host games nearly every 2 weeks at Hollywood Sports and SC Village. The game types are usually Stock class, Limited Ammo, Magfed, or some combination of the aforementioned. If this seems like something you would like, hit up "Henchman" as he is one of the chief organizers and generally a cool guy. For walk on play, I frequent Warped Sports in santa clarita and SC Village. Both fields are stellar.
Oh, and just save yourself the trouble and buy a high-end mask now. You'll thank me during the summer.
