Question for a friend

Hey all,

I'm helping a buddy of mine get into the sport. I took him out to Challenge Park and let him use my guns, I'm mostly a pump player but I have an old Spyder E99 for the end of the day when I don't want to take home the rest of my paint lol. I let him play with the pumps and the Spyder, and figured he'd go for the pumps, which I know quite a bit about, but he really liked the Spyder, and wants either an electronic or nicer mechanical semi-auto.

So here's my conundrum: I know almost nothing about electronic markers, and less than that about any made in the last 5 years. I've always played pump, and just picked up the Spyder for $60 from a friend. Could anyone give me some good recommendations for a decent gun under $200 that would fit the bill of a reliable, somewhat accurate semi-auto marker? Thanks for any help you can give.

Thanks,

Sigma

I used to be on her spyder train in a big way, but recently found that automags are just delightful! They can be had fairly. Heap these days, anywhere from $75 to $150 depending on upgrades for a classic, and the price can go up from there depending in what you want from it. As long as you pair it up with a decent barrel, they are unstoppable and require hardly any maintenance except for an occasional o ring and a few drops of oil. For a newer player they are pretty indestructible so he won't have to worry about breaking it, unless he actually tries to do so.

Just my two cents though

I prefer to go classic or just straight used cause the deals you can get are amazing. Real question is, are you looking for $200 out the door full setup, or just $200 for the marker? New: enemy, used: automag. There are a few mags without barrels on eBay for $75 that seem to be in good condition. Throw a docs barrel adapter or nice twist lock on there and you'll be well under $200. Now, if you're looking for full setup, some website must have a GoG bundle that should be about that price range.

If they want a new electronic marker for under $200, get a Spyder. It is around $150, winds up having more metal showing on it than a Gog marker, has eyes, and basically is a great marker. throw in the low price and it's a hell of a deal for a new player.

If they want mech, go for a mechanical spyder or azodin, both around $80 markers and they're pretty bulletproof.

Im going to disagree with the Spyder recomendation , tolerances are just trash on the new ones and im not even sure parts and tech supports is availble since they sold out to Empire/Kee. Even outta the box most need service as in loose screws, spring jobs and leaky hard lines. the Tippmann Cronus would be a better choice for riliability and Tech support since a 2 year warrenty is hard to beat..
