Noob to tanks, need hydro advice

Man, this is basic I know, but I've only used 12 grams or rental semis before, so I'm ignorant. I just got two new tanks, one co2, the other hpa. Do I need to get them hydro-ed before I play with them this weekend? I assumed a new tank was good to be filled at the field, but maybe not. Thanks very much

What are the original hydro dates on the tanks? Anything co2 over 5 years needs a re hydro, and 3-5 years on hpa tanks.

Hmmm. There aren't any stickers on them. One has something that reads "10A06" that's stamped in there. Its the closest thing that looks like a date. The other "07A07". If these are hydro dates, then it seems I'm good. I thought perhaps dates were stickers and not actually stamped in the metal.

This may help clairfy hydro dates for you.

Hydrotest - When to Hydro test your Paintball Tank.

Generally speaking, metal tanks are good for 5 yrs ( both CO2 and HPA).
Fiber wrapped tanks made or hydro'd after mid 2001 can be 5yr. Some are 3yr, depends on who made the tank.Check the "E" number and compare it here:

HydroLab's American Paintball Tank Hydro tester.

If there is damage to the tank or wrap, if the tank has been compromised ( exposed to high heat, severe drop , modified ( annodizing is one way) ) or if you are in doubt, have it checked out.

Just remember, hydro testing is done to keep YOU and the others around you, SAFE. It is better to have them tested and know that they are good then not know.

Also PLEASE remember to never, EVER, put any oil in the fill nipple on the HPA tank. It can cause the tank to catch on fire or explode when it gets filled. Do a search and you'll find links to pictures of several tanks this has happened to.

Be careful, welcome back, and have a great time!
