Freak vs. Freak Jr.

Ok, so what's the difference? Do they use the same sleeves? Are parts interchangeable? Is there a difference in quality? Hit me.

Freak Jr comes with the front, the back (where the inserts fit), and ONE insert (0.691 bore size) usually. So it costs new about $90.

A FULL freak kit comes with the front, back and all the inserts of different bore sizes ~8 of them (aluminum = $150 vs. stainless steel = $220).

It's just the number of inserts you get... the rest is the same.

Only thing to worry about is the back piece (both the same), but you have to make sure it fits your marker (ie. Autococker, SP NXT Impulse, etc.)

Not entirely correct. The Freak JR kit comes with a simpler front piece and three inserts for 90$, the barrell with one insert is 60$ compared to 95$ for a Freak barrell with one insert.

Not to derail your shopping but seriously check out the Powerlyte Scepter before buying a Freak. It's leaps and bounds better than the Freak from my experience and a kit with front, back and 7 inserts can be had for right around $100 shipped from dealers on ebay and not much more direct from Powerlyte. That's only 1 less insert about 33% less cost and the quality is much, much higher.

Freak Jrs that I bought and sold wholesale/retail come with 3 inserts with the case, if you're only getting one insert, then you're getting ripped off.

Freak you get the whole set, and you can get a complete set found on here at times for $70 and ebay $100 or so

The Empire Revolver is supposedly the same as the Scepter kit, made by PL for Empire, so check prices on those as well. I tend to avoid buying from SP, both for quality control and sociopolitical reasons.

Also, there are Evil Pipe kits on eBay for dirt cheap now (or were recently), which I've had pretty good luck with and have multiple colors and 2 styles of front. You don't get the benefits of the back-only change if you're wanting something for multiple thread types though.

Always consider something else before Smart Parts!

Thanks for the info and recommendations. And for the most part I had just been wondering; I had seen some on Ebay and didn't know what they were and figured that maybe there were some other newbs wondering the same thing. But thanks.
