No thermal concerned me too because I can fog any mask. I've had condensation inside this one on a rainy day but never fog. The lens area is so big and far from your face that fogging is almost impossible. | Got Rage? Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Northwestern Pennsylvania | The Grill is the Agg version of the Profiler. It has a cooler shape. The mask is also a lot softer from what I've read and can lead to some flex-like fat lips & etc. I believe the lens is a little smaller too so field of vision is sacrificed to allow you to look super cool. It's price is about 30% to 40% more too. VForce Grill Mask | Paintball Review | pbreview.com

| Seasoned Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: South Joisey | When I was looking for a new mask a few months ago, it was between the Profiler, Grill, and Pro-flex. I initially bought the Pro-flex, but didn't trust the soft ears and changing lenses was a huge PITA, so I ended up selling it. From there I tried out both the Profiler and Grill and decided on the Grill. The Grill's lenses are unique to the Grill. So right now there is a wider variety of lenses (ranging from basic thermal to polychromatic) for the Profiler, but there is still a substantial selection for the Grill, just at a slightly higher cost. The Grill's lenses are actually the same field of view as the Profiler's lenses, but they are smaller if you're measuring top to bottom. I can only really see this being an issue (and minor at that) if you're playing a lot of scenarios with incredibly "hilly" terrain. It's important to note that if you're going with a V-Force mask, their "thermal" lenses aren't double-paned like the JTs. Instead, the lenses are more or less treated with a hardcoated anti-fog solution. Personally, through the 3 lenses I've been through on my Shield and Grill, I've never had a problem, but there have been reports of the lenses' "thermal" coating wearing down after 6 or so months. As for the structure of the mask itself, the Grill is definitely a tighter profile and the entire mask, save for the brow, is very flexible. Mine's taken probably about a dozen shots to the lower section and none have broken. I've likened the Grill to a Pro-Flex with actual ear protection, as the Grill doesn't use "soft ears". Instead, it uses the same material as the rest of the lower section. There's also minor padding by the ears, so I found it more comfortable than the Pro-Flex. As for the Profiler, the lower section is flexible and will definitely get its share of bounces, but I found the Grill to be a bit more flexible. The Profiler also has similar ear padding to the Grill and I'd say the two are equally comfortable. I have a fairly large head and both the Grill and Profiler covered my face down to the bottom of my chin. The Profiler sits a bit higher up, though, so you get more forehead protection. Both have incredibly quick lense changing. The Profiler is probably a little quicker (maybe a second or two), but disassembly and reassembly of either mask shouldn't take more than 30 seconds if you're taking your time. The last thing I can remember that's different between the two that really made me gravitate towards the Grill is the ability to easily replace the foam. It's pretty expensive in my opinion, but changing the foam is a matter of popping out the old insert and popping in a new one. The other V-Force masks (Profiler, Morph, Shield) require you to peel the old foam off and get a new strip to adhere to the mask. More or less an issue of convenience, but when you're reffing 8 hours a day in the summer, that's a more than welcome quality. If V-Force masks don't do it for you, you can check out the Proto line of masks. They have quick-change lenses and the Switch has a flexible lower section. A few people I know swear by them, but my personal experience with them is very limited. Last edited by Sexy_Chicken; 12-09-2007 at 05:04 PM.. |
