Well I know people who have had 07's for a while and that haven't gotten any major wear. I've played 3 days with mine and they look brand new, that's with rough use. The pull tab on the elastic waste band snapped off, but it still works fine.

We have huge problems with field conditions in Miami. Everything is basically on top of coral rock and it costs to much to continually water grass for optimum conditions. Its that or play in beach sand which sucks.

I will stick with my BDU's or Smokin pants. I will admit my ancient JT pants with the zipoff legs are kickass, but no one makes anything with zip off pants these days (AFAIK)

So the BDU's and Smokin pants work fine? Do you still tear you knees up or can you feel it?

I'm 34 so I don't run and dive on rocks. I had a par of BDUs last like 10 years before a screw on a bar rail ripped them. The smokin are great with the knee pads. I was a tourney back player and am still all scenario so my gear went through all the paces.

My knees are fine in the regular BDUs unless it is really rocky and then i might throw the smokin ones on or add external pads.

Padded pants are great. I dont have any because I have so many worn out jeans that id feel bad replacing for paintball. Once i run out of worn out jeans i will buy some paintball pants because those built in pads on the knees are great.

Shirts and such? Forget it. Maybe elbow pads.

Padded knees are a must for me, I do a ton of kneeling during woodsballs and my knees get messed up without them, I tried knee pads but they feel too restrictive. Jersey I'm kinda "meh," an XL or XXL jersey is great for bounces and actually helps take the sting outta some hits. Gloves are a must have and I would say elbow pads are as well.

I can't stand wearing gloves, maybe because it is hot as all hell in Florida.

The one pair of paintball specific clothing that I swear by is Slider Shorts. The ones that have the padding on the sides and back and the built in soft-cup. They are neopreme, and you wear them in place of your boxers/tighty whities and they are great. You don't get any rubbing or irritation due to sweating.. pulls the moisture away really well.. comfortable... and are so valuable if you ever do get an unlucky shot to the groin. I have tried running in the "soft cups" and others and just would get rubbing/irritation... these have been a huge advantage to me... it's the only paintball specific clothing I wear and it's under my bdu's / realtree camo so it's never seen.. =P

Ok, so the conclusions are:

1) Paintball specific clothing is not necessary, except for a good mask.
2) Play in whatever you feel comfortable in (and your field allows).

Whoa, slow down there tough guy. #1 depends on your playing style and the terrain of the fields you play on. I think it is foolish to play without slider shorts and knee protection. If you get hit in the junk or if you mess up your knees just one time, you will wish you would have heeded my advice. I have never been hit in the junk, but I can't even count how many people I have hit in the junk. When you are in the midst of a gunfight, the last thing you worry about is your body placement. #2 is the also as important because you can not play to your full potential unless you are comfortable.
