You don't need to spend hundreds on pb-specific gear, you can get it used or the next year or two new for way cheaper. But there is good reason for many paintball-specific items.

Hundreds, I don't know where you shop, but I would look elsewhere. I got my slider shorts for $15, my pants for $20, Jersey $20, Knee Pads $25, Elbow Pads $25. I think it is well worth spending at least $100 to protect yourself. 1 trip to the hospital will go far beyond what you spend on protective gear plus it saves the wear and tear on your body. Most of the protective gear that were made for other sports will usually not work that well for paintball related purposes. How many sports have you low crawling in dirt, kneeling for extended periods of time, superman diving, have projectiles flying at you and your junk, etc. etc.

What the hell are you talking about? I said you DON'T have to spend hundreds. As in I DO NOT SPEND HUNDREDS and I DO NOT RECOMMEND SPENDING HUNDREDS. Someone ELSE said something about spending hundreds, which you can very easily do that if you buy the latest Dye stuff retail, for example.

I buy most of my paintball clothing at a second hand not for profit store. My paintball "blazer" cost me about a buck..... it's cheap, breathable, cheap and it works. Did I mention cheap? I sewed a few pockets and 10 round tube holder on it.

You don't need paintball specfic clothing.

Looking for all Canadians on MCB, building a list by province. PM me to be added to the list.

Local ARMY/NAVY store is the best route. Don't feel you need to buy what everyone else has.Trust me, the hype is worth more then the gear. Just my 2 cents.
Later,

Gee the only Paintball specific clothing I have is my Team jersey and I don't even wear it most of the time. I wear a Kilt (guess thats paintball specific huh) but when I feel the need for pants I usually go to the surplus store and grab a pair of black miltec ripstop pants. All the pockets and like and they hold up just as well. Hell bought my boots at the surplus store just a cheap pair of 30 buck solid black leather and nylon jungle boot knock offs that have lasted me 4 years now. They work equally well on grass and in the woods. I have never spent a ton of cash on paintball clothing. Never felt the need to nor have I suffered for it. As long as I have had a good mask and a decent pack to hual balls out on the field with a working marker I am happy.

The most I've probably spent on one item of pball clothing was $90, and that was for my Smokin' SCP pants. And they were WAAAY worth it. Everything else I get last years stuff retail for about half of what they originally cost, and then use that item till it wears out (usually several years down the road). I just recently bought new Dye gloves b/c my last pair just wore out (last pair were Dye 03 gloves, before they introduced the C-line and were bought at the end of '03.....got a good three and a half years of hard play out of them).
