Black jeans with the old JT slider shin pads works for me. I tried BDU's but didn't care for them at all. The upper body totally depends on the weather...I've worn everything from a sleeveless t-shirt to a biker jacket. I've even done the shirt and tie with blazer look. Anything that you don't mind getting messy is fair game in my book. Then again, I play mostly 24-hour games, where the unusual is a bit more common.

Another option that I keep handy is a flight suit. Not super durable, but you can easily layer underneath them, they are very light on hot days and you never have to worry about your pants falling down. They do look a bit noob-ish, but what do I care about that?

I have a pair of JT Teams. I used to play in BDUs, but my JTs are much better because I don't need to wear kneepads and they have a convenient swab holder on the calf. They also have better padding on the leg that leaves me with slightly less ugly bruises. My JTs are the only paintball-specific clothing that I would consider essential.

Meh,

The paintball pants do have the cool features of built in padding and the swab holders, but a pair of BDU pants and a skateboard pad set (knee and elbow) will get the job done as well.

What I do for my ghetto swab holder is stick it under the elastic straps that keep the knee pads on me The only problem I find with the BDU and pad setup is sometimes the pads slide down, so sometimes when I try and slide and look cool, the pads are too far down, and I eat dirt :P

The choice is yours though, both are effective, so flip a coin and pick one! :P

Clothing? These guys have fashion!

In answer to the question about the knees, I have used the cloth from those canvas chairs that break. They usually have 1/4 in foam padding in between 2 layers of thick nylon. It will help the jeans last a bit longer and is more comfortable, but mostly very inexpensive.

I've got dye c7 pants (christmas present) and I love em, paintball pants are defiantly a must for me playing on any kind of speedball feild, and I got black so they work in the woods too. I have a jersey (little small now) that a teammates dad bought us for placing second in the first tournement we ever played (dye c5 jerseys with the team logo, pretty tit). Usually don't wear gloves, have a nice thick "general marine construction" beanie I use to padd my 13/3k in the gun bag and i wear it on the feild. In the woods I wear nice waterproof assualt boots, have a pair of sneakers for speedball.

I usually wear BDU pants as MARPAT is my team uniform too. But I just recently picked up a pair of 07 Proto pants, and I LOVE them. If you have the money, paintball pants are definitely worth it. Make sure you get like some volleyball kneepads or something to wear underneath though.

No.
I've seen people play in kilts, shorts, dresses.... I wouldn't recommend nudist paintball, that would be rather risky.
Honestly I have never used pads either.

It's not strictly necessary but if you want to perform at your maximum then yes. You simply cannot go full speed as hard without pads as you can with. And I sure hope you wear SOME kind of pants ... nobody wants to see your junk.

I don't know about that full speed thing. I don't like to land on my knees with or without pads. (bad knee) I DO find it difficult to run with knee pads or even extra padding in the knees since it rubs and is hot.

Then again, I have no idea what playing style you're talking about verses what I do.
