The one that came with my Tiberius is the best one I have, ultra sturdy. It's made of the same stuff as the holsters. I dunno if you can get them seperately though, and they are black, which is less useful because one purpose of a barrel condom is to signal to others to please stop ramping at you.

The tib 8s is one of the better bags Ive seen, but its black. The quality is good dont get me wrong, but it doesnt realy hold a candle to Shartlys. We are talking about safety devices here. Unfortunatly there is more to go wrong with a bag than a plug. With a Plug, it justs needs to fit tight in order to work properly. With a bag, the matterials must be of vewry high quality as well as the construction. Just IMHO

Agreed. But on the same note, bags are still (if made correctly) far better than plugs. The reasons are many, but keep in mind that a bag will give a little, both in material and by the cords. This allows for the dissipation of force caused by the ball impacting the inside of the bad. This means that the bag will absorb more of the force and even if not “tight” it will work as intended. You can not say that with a plug. Once a plug loosens even a little, it is no longer a safety device, but another projectile… and a hard one at that.

So I would present that if both a plug and a bag were made to correct standards, the bag would be the superior safety device.

It is also why most insurance companies require them now days.

But with that said, I don’t care what bag/wrap/condom folks use. Just make sure that what they pick is not just “pretty”, but actually can do what it is intended to do. And out of all the things you buy, do NOT buy one wrap over another simply because it costs less. The most expensive wrap on the market is not THAT expensive. Buying a cheap wrap is like buying a sports car and then putting on bicycle breaks because they “cost you less”. Did they now? What is the cost when you actually have to USE them?

I'll give Sam a plug and say that he makes a mighty fine barrel wrap - I still have a bunch of them and they are holding up very well after 3/4 years of use.

Thanks Sam!

I noticed this thread a few days ago, and read a good portion of it.

Sam has it right, all things (materials in this case) being equal, the superior barrel blocking device is the bag/condom/sock. Especially with the existence of electronic hair triggers.

I also agree that it isn't always easy to find one that is made well enough to perform it's intended function, at least not for long. While I haven't gotten to this point yet, I imaging that they need to be replaced every so often. Just like goggle lenses have to be.

With all that, I still say the best and most important safety device is between your ears! If you don't use that, all the other devices won't make a difference.

Shartley, was it you who made the AO barrel bags a few years ago?

Those were absolutely the best bags i have seen to date. They made sure the ball hit the reinforcement strap, rather than the corners of weak material, and the cord is attached through a loop in the reinforcement rather than sewed in. I have one from the original run that is still in perfect shape.

I want more of them.

No those were not mine. I know those however and would put mine up against them any day of the week. Plus with mine you don’t have to try to find them, all you need to do is ORDER THEM.

I mine also make the barrel go where it is supposed to by the shape, and in fact have pop out corners that provide even more safety should the first set of seams fail. It is detailed on my site.

Also, mine come in a MUCH wider range of colors and design choices.

Can you make some that are very small in diameter like the AO ones? Something about a 2" wide barrel bag on a 1" barrel that bothers me.

I can make just about anything. In fact my first ones (before the new wider ones) were slim fit. But they didn't sell as well as the wider ones do now. The reason is that some barrels didn't fit at all, and the majority simply fit too "fitted" and thus took longer to put on than the size now used.

All in all, the new size is right where it should be.

But like I said, i can custom make what the person needs. I just will not offer it as a standard service.

My memory may be fuzzy, but last I saw the neoprene ones arent fit to use and are banned at many fields.

Ive mostly used the ones I got from AKA. Since Ive never shot into any of them theyre holding up well. Look good though. I do intend to order something with more visibility. I'm liking the looks of the polka dot.
