Probably only one direction will help.. good idea.

Better vertically. If you do mess up and have streaks, you will have vertical distortions rather than horizontal. A bit easier to see and aim.

2:1 alcohol/water spray bottle at the field
pure water at home
plexus and a microfiber to buff it up.

you guys keeping lenses for over a year, you are absolutely crazy.

Noely - It just depends on how often you play. If I was playing pump every weekend i'd end up spending as much on lenses as I do on paint

Yes the Spectra lenses are aggravating. The newer, softer frames make lens replacement easier for sure. It's the foam that keeps me coming back

You might want to try a different microfiber. I found that not all "microfiber" cloths work the same. Macrolineguy sells two different kinds: a regular and economy. The regular one works good, but not the economy one. The best I've used are the ones in gray that are meant for glasses or camera lenses. They are thick, almost leathery texture, and have more of a squeegee like effect of taking paint off the lenses especially when using water.

Not sure if newspaper is the best for goggles, but newspaper works very well when cleaning windows/mirrors/glass. The chemicals in newsprint are excellent in stopping streaks.

Many optometrists have told me not to use paper when cleaning glass, as it will definitely leave tiny scratches. Auto owners also give the same advice when drying one's car, to not use newspaper.
I rarely use paper products, only in desperation. It may just be a preference thing but microfiber + spraybottle h2o all the way. I'm going to try Plexus soon, have only heard good things about it.
My lenses last a long time without needing replacement, and stay crystal clear. The hardest part is cleaning everything else!

Glasses are normally not made of glass. They are plastic. Paper will scratch
plastic, but it will not scratch glass. Most rocks won't scratch glass.

For quick on-field cleaning, Cat Crap or Scope Dope (basically the same
thing) works quite well. Especially when you don't have a spray bottle handy
(and sometimes even if you do I prefer it). Either is about $5 from any
sporting goods store.
