Thanks for these newbie guides, they've been helpful to this newbie. A couple of things I'd like to add is that masks should be purchased NEW. As with helmets, it's a safety device, and a used mask may have caught a facefull of paint once or many times, you never know... the distress on the lens can lead to failure. So, buy new, or from someone where you know the history and will be honest.

Second, and quite the contrary, I have found that looking around in forums like this, and on Craigslist etc... I have found great deals on used gear, and even made a few friends who are looking forward to coming out to the field for our next game. I just tallied it up and I'm just about $300 invested so far, and I own 2 98Customs (E-bolt, Freak system, drops, HPA on both), 2 masks, 2 sets of BDUs, a nice pod pack, like 20 pods, condoms and other random bits that make a day's play better.... Plus the duplicates make it so I can grab a friend....

So buy your mask new, or from an honest person, and get your first marker used... you can always sell it for roughly what you paid if the sport isn't for you.
