I have the opportunity to buy a slightly used sniper II for about $300 canadian ($264 USD). I'm currently using an Sl-68 II and was wondering if
1) This is a good deal, and
2) If the sniper is any improvement over what I'm using.
The seller is a friend of a friend of mine, so he may be able to get the price lowered a bit for me.
Whether or not it was a good deal depends on the specs of the gun and what it comes with, there's a lot of stuff that can affect the value quite a bit. The Sniper is definately an improvment, there's a huge variety of barrels and the pump stroke will be much smoother.
I believe the sniper is pretty much stock, and has had a couple hundred balls through it. The guy bought it and then quit paintball.
The other option though might be to just spend the extra $180 and get a PPS houndstooth. I'd probably spend at least another $100 putting another barrel on the sniper anyway, and I doubt the houndstooth needs any upgrades. Depends on how much he'll lower the price I guess.
What do you think?
I know someone with a Houndstooth much cheaper than that.... try $375 with a female Stab, porting, & CF. PM me if you want his info.
Depending on the year of the body, they go for a wide range of prices. Some go for around 100 bucks US if they have an older right feed body and a WGP pump kit. These may be an advantage if you're using CO2 because much of the older ones had valves designed for it.
Some of the newer Sniper II's with stock bodies (very feed, colored, some milling) and a higher end pump kit (CCM, white wolf super)go for more, say 250 dollars I think.
I would find out more about the gun, but usually performance upgrades to snipers don't add THAT much over what it comes with stock, so if you're looking for primarily performance upgrade, you might wanna look at some cheaper sniper options.
I think you can find a better deal here or on other forums. I'd pass.
I agree with above. Keep an eye out for Snipers in the Pump sale section. They are going on this board for sub 200 all the time. You can even piece one together for less then that if you take your time and look for parts. For Sniper/Autococker people the body is a canvas and it depends on what art is painted on it. Milling and custom anodizing can run the cost of the body alone over $400.
It all depends on what your gettin for your $300 cdn. If it comes with a tank, reg and barrel kit and has a decently milled body it could be worth it. Find all the specs on it and post it here, I'm pretty sure someone here can give you a good idea on its value.
On the topic of snipers I have to say I love mine. I made it from my autococker and don't think the pneumatics are going back onto it. I got bored and made my slider trigger into a swing trigger and its got a real sweet 2mm pull. These things are awsome to customize there isn't a pump out there thats more adaptable/upgradeable imho.
While we're on it, what's the differences between Sniper Is IIs and IIIs? Sniper I= a Sniper, Sniper II=converted autococker? Or was it the 99/2k switch?
Nelsons are soo much less complicated :(
sniper 1 is similar to a sniper2 with a few differences. sniper 3 is a shorter body and has a banjo bolt setup for air. Sniper2=cocker, sniper3=minicocker where the asa is on the front block.
