| Active Member | pump noob here i've been wanting to get a pump, and i was just wondering how the SL-68II compared to higher end pumps like phantoms and cocker pumps im trying to trade a halo B (in sig) for said pump, its problably worth around 80 or so, and i have 2 people on pbn interested an ANS GX-3 cocker with ccm pump kit http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=1837072 (deal would be he keeps reg and barrel and i use the hyper II and ultralight off my PM6) ^im trying to take this deal but the guy isnt PMing me back so... and this customized SL-68II http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=1824786 he said he was having problems with balls rolling down the barrel, and i was wondering since the SL-68 dosent have detents, is this normal or is it a problem? because i really dont want that to happen and like i said the halo is worth around 80$, is the customized SL-68 worth trading the halo for when i can get an ex-rental for 25$ here http://www.paintballshop.com.au/prod...productId=6349

| An SL would make a great first pump. Cheap, Tougher than nails, and has a nice feel to it. I don't think they have a detent (been a while since I've had one), but you can always use the old tricks (dab of nail polish, or some tape), and eliminate the problem. Biggest issues with the SLs are, the feed-tubes are often cracked, and they do not take normal hoppers without an adapter. As for the one you're looking at: The paint job looks like spray-paint, and the "Custom" cocking handle looks he hacked up a stock pump. The J&J barrel is a nice plus though. I wouldn't pay more than $65 shipped for that one. Personally, I would sell the Halo, get the ex-rental and try it out. The stock barrels on those are actually pretty decent, but since it was a rental, it might be in sad shape, but you can always upgrade later, and still come in waay under his asking price. If that place with the rental is not local for you, I would suggest calling them up and seeing if the pump stroke is still decent, just to make sure not too much dirt has been run through it, and make sure the feed-tube isn't cracked. And looking at that picture, there is no safety in the rental one. Since it's a pump, it's not the hugest deal as long as you've got a plug or condom, but some fields might whine.

| the MilD MOD | The pump handle looks a little questionable on that SL from PBN, I definitely wouldn't value that marker at $80. I'd also shy away from ordering a used painball gun from Australia, especially in that price range. I could see it being a headache and shipping would be high, possibly more than the cost of the gun. SL-68IIs show up here and on ebay fairly frequently and you can get them pretty cheap. I'd say be patient and look for another source before pursuing those two deals. Something else like a Trracer or Maverick would also be a good cheap option. I bought a nearly mint condition Trracer for $40 on eBay a couple months back for instance. On the topic of rollouts and pumps, yes it is common if you don't have a good pain to barrel match. Basically small paint rolls right out of large bore barrels. It is a huge PITA and does negatively affect performance in very frustrating ways. The best solution is a nice snug barrel for your paint or a barrel "kit" with sizers (not available for all markers though). There are mods like PPS wedgits you can have done in some cases. Then there are the homebrew solutions like a ring of nailpolish in the breech of your barrel or a piece of tape to help snug the ball. This has been discussed in detail so you should find something if you search. |

| So much is personal preference. I would trade for the GX3 Sniper and not look back, but I'm a Sheridan guy. It's kinda hard if noone around plays pump but as always try and shoot one, your tastes could be way off from mine. Avery |

| Whoops..good eye Wild. Didn't see that shop was in Ausi-land. In that case, I wouldn't go with either of those two SL's.

| Active Member | someone that ordered from there told me the SLs from that place were 25 including shipping, not sure though well i have fireball moutain right near me wich does pump tourneys everyonce and awile, and the field closest to me is way too easy to play with my pm6,everyone has mech spyders or rental tippmans, ions and a few high ends here and there, so i was thinking id get a cocker pump to impove my snapping, save paint, and just make it even between me and the less-skilled at that field, and maybe a pump tourney with some friends the reason i dont go for a traccer or maverick is because they are right-feed (am i correct?) and need elbows which i dont feel like dealing with if the GX-3 deal falls thru im going to sell the halo for 55$ and an egg with Z-board, sell the egg and then work on getting a cocker thanks guys

| Active Member | So what you are saying is that you are looking for a Vertical feed gun? Granted, the tippy has a sorta built in elbow, it's still offset to the right. I don't know if I"m following your logic, but if it's a vert feed yer looking for, keep yer eyes open on the F/S forums here, you'll see some of the strangest custom pumps around. Butcher |

| Active Member | yeah the tippys are right feed but they dont use one of those plastic adjustable elbows i hate those things, i cracked a bajillion of them when i had my old spyder (i play speedball so my stuff tends to get roughed up) but yes prefferably vert feed so i dont get shot in the hopper

| I wouldnt buy that Sl, There was a Sl two days ago on this forum going for 25 box. You can get hopper adaptors for about 5, or online for about 10 to 15shipped (I would have to find the link) There are a slew of Sl's all over this forum for 60 and under. pep
