Making the jump to HPA

I've decided to join the 21st century and invested in a used PMI 48/3k from a local player. I'm completely in the dark about how these work.

What do I need to know?

Don't put oil or anything into the fill nipple.
Fill slowly so you don't lose a bunch of pressure to rapidly heating the tank and having it cool on you.
Keep a tank cover on it so it doesn't get scratched or dented.

That's about it.

How about regulators? I'll need one, right? The tank isn't adjustable and I'll likely be running it on a Mag.

Like I said, I'm in the dark.

Unless the HPA has a preset output of 800PSI and your gun is running low pressure, you can just screw in the tank and go.

I suggest you get a preset HP (high pressure) regulator since its more versatile.
LP regs run at 400-450 psi which is too little for some markers (like the Trracer) to operate properly.

You should get around 400-500 shots out of a full fill. I personally dont care about steel tanks because they weigh too much for my liking. 68/45 (fiber wrapped) is the only tank for me if I have a tank mounted on gun (plus you dont always have to be aware of over filling the tank, since the 300 BAR tanks give a maximum of 4500psi output when full)

Are you talking about tank regs, or inline regs ? If the tank you bought is just the tank, with no regulator on it to keep the air in, then yes you'll need to buy a preset screw in reg for you tank which should be loctited in with red loctite. If the tank already has the reg in it, then just screw it in the ASA of your marker and go.

Depending on your marker and its setup, you may or may not need an inline regulator. However, if you were running on unregged CO2 previously, then I'll wager you won't need an inline reg for HPA.

That's what I needed to know. And it's a Mag rigged to run on CO2, so all's well. I imagine my Trracer (which chokes on more liquid than Jenna Jameson) would be happy to see the change as well.

It's a steel tank. It's probably heavier than it needs to be. But I'm fairly beefy so an extra pound of weight wouldn't bother me any unless the game is an all-day scenario.

Thanks everyone!

Don't forget that the Mag has a built-in regulator, so you'll be fine running the tank directly on the Mag without an additional regulator.

Automags should not..not..not have an additional regulator on top of the HPA tanks built in reg, and the automags built in reg. Its unneccesary and can cause shoot down. Automags regulators are excellent and they need to flow mountains of air into the dump chambers and they do that job just fine. With a mag, just screw in your tank and your good to go.

You should NEVER loctite the valve/reg onto any high-pressure container. Ie HPA/CO2 tanks.

The manafacturer says just torque the valve/reg to proper specs.
Adding loctite only increases the chance that it will fail hydro (loctite is the #1 reason for failure), and it can also cause a fatal accident if the loctite blocks the safety vent.
