Funny, I always thought it meant you like to spend money to compensate for a lack of something else in life. Friends, confidence, common sense, something else- take your pick.Or, it could just mean you like spending money on paintball equipment. If it does mean someone is a better player, do you think someone could modify a mask for their dog, and rig up some sort of back mounted shoot while it barks type trigger system and gain another player? That would be rather cool.

Does having a more expensive gun mean you are better? No, it just means you paid more to play. Quote:

We also need to reconsider what we mean by expensive. There is a distinct tactical advantage to being able to shoot 10 BPS (or whatever), one handed, while looking the other direction in a roughly controlled manner. That being said a buzzard is more expensive than an Ion set up.

wait, so the real expensive Lux and MacDev and other such expensive markers don't make me a better player? I would have to disagree. I bought a T8 for 180 and many months later bought a T9 with all the bells and whistles for like $420 and even though I have only used the T9 like 12 times I have "shoot out" about 30 players with it. I may have just broke 20 with the T8. Infact this past weekend I used that new $30 autococker trilogy and I shoot like 2 people the whole day. So yes playing with a more expensive marker DOES make you better. LOL, Odd way of thinking about it but all of what I have said IS true. When you consdier I use the T9 in pistol mode with my T8 and only since I have had both. Consider the T9 is heavier and goes in my primary hand where I shoot more often. I have shoot about 20 other people with the T8 before getting the T9 thus actually rendering my own point false. Just funny when you think of it in a way to make a bogus point. I can also say that I got a $290 G3 which was used twice and has actually shoot one person . . . twice . . . me. That was more to test paint which people thought was bad. It too mind you has yet to see a single game yet. Hopefully next weekend that can change. |

I agree that people generally feel more confident with a better gun will play better on field so.. yes to the MAKE. I suppose it doesn't necessarily mean you're a better player if there is a difference in gear. IE:I used to rent and I would be horribly afraid to move up against a person with an Ion even though the person was horrible (Seriously, not being a prick). Now, I have a Vice, and I'd happily move up on a person with an Ion. Bit weird logic there but essentially, the gun creates confidence that most players lack. |

So the gun just *appears* to make you better, when in fact you're just more comfortable using it, therefore you play better because you're not worrying about how the gun's gonna perform. It's all about experience. I'm not the most experienced guy here (12 years) but I can pick up my KP2 or my S6 or Aura (or whatever) and know exactly what they're gonna do for me. I'm comfortable playing with any of them. Sure, some are better in certain situations (S6 or Aura if's gonna get nuts; KP2 if I've got time) but ultimately they're all just tubes that launch gelatinous balls of goo. It's all in your head.

Hold on people, I somewhat disagree. Having a more expensive gun means your better only IF you can utilize it. For instance, I can go out, and buy a .50 AE Desert Eagle from a gunshop, I can shoot it at the range, but if I don't hit the target, it's useless, period. There are some paintball guns worth their price, but electro's, come on, if you're relying on 100 rds. to take out one person, it's a waste of time and money.

I disagree. Many a time I have taken out people with my mechs when they are using electros at 16+ bps. Me and a teammate were playing pump once and bunkered 3 electros a piece in the same match. I think he even bunkered the same guy twice. And it's a lot cheaper if you can hit the same spot time after time at 8 bps than it is hitting the general area at 16 bps.

"Better" to me is a marker that fires +/-0fps, every shot. "Better" to me is a marker that makes no noise except the sound of the sear tripping. "Better" to me is a marker that does the above without batteries and can be cleaned by taking a bath with it. What "better" is vis-a-vis marker varies from player to player.
