Proto pants are one of the best bangs for your buck. They're well padded, light, comfortable and aren't overpriced like the APX pants. For $59.95, a brand new pair of '09 Proto's would be money well spent.

The C7 pants are nice as well, but due to them being so outdated, finding them in the color and size you want may be a tad bit more difficult. The Proto pants are available in every size and color for $59.95, whereas the Dye C7's are more of a "whatever we have left, we'll put on clearance for $X-amount" situation. Since they were once WELL over $100 MSRP, they're probably still going for $50-$70 for a new pair.

Also, Dye tends to put out Proto products that are VERY similar to older Dye gear, so you can probably expect the '09 Proto pants to be about the same as the Dye C7's/C8's, minus a few logos here and there.

C7s are heavy. The padding is practically pointless. Other than that, they have some stretchiness in good areas and are TOUGH... but I'm nowhere near wearing through the ones I have, yet am looking to get something lighter with more knee padding.

I'm a 34/36 and I wear a Large in Proto's so a Medium should be fine for you I'd imagine.

I like smokin pants as they actually have functional built in knee pads. The knees feel funny like cardboard at first but the first time you hit your knees without wearing sweaty neoprene knee pads, you are smiling and know you have the right pants on.

I am a 32/32 5:11 and wear mediums. The crotch is like a mile and a half too long but the length is right. The proportions are MC hammer escque to me though. Still the best.
