*edit.... I got to light a kid up with the minimag as well... but he was on our team. At OA, they have a no bunker rule.. you run up and yell BUNKER!. Well, he dashed across and "bunkered two of our teammates... It was the first round, and I wasn't sure whos team he was on.. I had a clear shot and lit him up on the side and back... must've landed 5 balls. ouch! We both should've been more aware of who was who.

It was just after that, that I put the minimag down and pulled out the PGP, gogging the two kids who came after me from the story above.

I don't understand how hitting someone with one of 300 balls, fired at 30BPS is skill.... yet a single ball to the face from a PGP is a "lucky" shot....

I love playing pump at the paintball field, not only do you get strange looks, but its a blast. Today there was a bachelor party there and me and my friends got chosen to guard the "president"(the guy getting married) we were owning the guys with rental 98's. The ref eventually made us drop our vests we were wearing witch made us iinvincible and we had to go after the president too because no one could brake through or make there way around us. It was one of the most fun games I have played in along, long time.
My sniper was acting funny (I think it was the reg) so I switched to my sterling, ahh good times, good times.....

i warn new players to keep an eye out for the guy with the Stock Class Pump that walks on to the field with a crowd of 200 rnd. hoppers.

that's usually the guy that will get you if you don't keep your eyes open.

Everyone glorifies their own style and tries to "bash" the others "he uses batteries..." SO WHAT!!! It's not like the equipment I'm using is inflicting in my playing abilities. I love playing pump, last weekend I played with a Karnivor that had a 15 round STICKFEED, try to accuse me of overshooting with that. Not like it changed my style of play that much, just needed to reload more often (6 eliminations with 80 balls, urban field, cover fire included).

I have played this sport long enough and seen every type of whiner there is. There is the "your gun is better/shinier/more expensive", "your gun shoots faster", "youre a pro" I could go on for days...
IT'S NEVER YOUR OWN FAULT IS IT?
It's always the other guy who has better equipment/who is playing against less skilled opponents.

Try not to go on with the spray and pray BS anymore..There has never been so much skill involved in paintball before than right now, maybe you just dont see it and blame it on guys shooting faster than you. I'd love to continnue but I gotta go to practises (thats right, someone actually practises playing paintball instead of complaining).

Go ahead and flame me.

no need to flame here - I kind of see your point. but its real easy to tell the ballers that grew up playing woodsball with pumps and learned quickly to make every shot count - especially the first one - from those who use their uber-markers for cover. Many call this skill. In many, many woodsball pump vs semi games ive played in, 80%+ games go to the pump ballers. technically it doesnt make sence - so it must be something else.

I do know this: when being shot at by a semi, the first shot rarely hits me and I almost always have time to move. Against a veteran pump player - its the first shot that gets me. no warning.

now if you can play semi and play "pump style" - you get the best of both worlds.

Ive got an old evolution cocker I play with a 90round whaler - just to force my self to play conservatively - and to aim.

and we practice mixed games - scenario style - at least twice a month.

as for skill these days vs the old days -- I disagree. Give me an oldschool player ANYDAY - at least for woodsball or scenario play.

I don't see it as divided as some... The things I love about pump play are the lack of gear needed on the field which allows me to move freely. My only "bragging" through pump play is after someone comments on me for joining a public walk on group armed with only my PGP and I get them out.

Being new to the sport, I take pump play as training... teaching me to only take shots that I have a decent chance of making... then, if I ever switch to speedball or bring out my semi, I'll be that much better.

It's a sport of fun and challenge, and I find challenge with my PGP. Limited BPS, ammo and air makes for a really tough game.

But I see both points here... I rarely get hit by electros. But I credit that to my smaller profile and ability to make it from bunker to bunker unencumbered... not the skill of the other players. Hell, nearly every game, regardless of structure (flag, attack, elim.) ends with all players out... so someone has to be shooting someone for everyone to be out.

It's all just style and comfort. I'm getting very comfortable with my PGP... I can snap shoot fairly accurately, load fast and change carts fast and in awkward positions.... I am just now getting comfortable with the drop off, and learning it's curve of what velocity to expect from my next ball...

Heck, maybe that's it. Maybe the kids who need the latest, greatest gear never give themselves time to have a symbiotic relationship with their marker, and us older players do.... Or maybe it doesn't matter and we can all just go play some effen paintball and enjoy the outdoors, social interaction and good times.

Go to any recreational or woods field and at any point in time I guarantee at least half of the players will be relying on "spray and pray." Having a fast gun early on greatly limits the learning a player is forced into, and, ultimately, stunts their field awareness and basic skills.

Dude, I think his point was that with a pump, you DON'T have the option of spray and pray, so your forced to use skill and tactics. There's no doubt if you give a new player a fast shooting gun, he'll use that bps as a crutch.

No need for all the animosity in that post.
